Dude, really? Just admit it: homophobes dying off like dinosaurs. I was listening to a really terrific radio documentary by Michigan Public Radio’s Lester Graham the other day when I heard something right at the very end that made me about pee in my pants because it was so hilariously delusional. It was a statement from noted homophobic bigot Gary […]Read more ›

Rick Snyder takes 114 words to say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about equal employment rights for gay & lesbian citizens
Let’s dance [Caricature by DonkeyHotey from photos by Anne C. Savage for Eclectablog] Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is clearly practicing for his court appearance in Detroit on Monday where he’ll testify in the court hearing to determine if the city is eligible to go into bankruptcy. UPDATED: If you live in Livingston or western Washtenaw Counties, Senator Joe Hune needs to hear from YOU!
[Please see the update below] Last week, I questioned whether or not Michigan Senator Joe Hune is actually intelligent enough to be a senator. Today, that question is just as pertinent as we learn that Senator Hune is adamantly opposed to marriage equality in Michigan, despite the sea change happening in the opinions of Michiganders. In a recent article in […]Read more ›
This is an historic day for equal rights — and a boost to everyone working toward marriage equality in Michigan. As I write this, my heart is full. Today is a day that was far too long in coming, but it’s here now and it’s cause for celebration. United States Supreme Court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) […]Read more ›
The people are leading their “leaders” This afternoon, a coalition of LGBT leaders and Michigan House Democrats announced package of legislation that will repeal the ban same-sex marriage in Michigan, a position supported by a majority of Michiganders. According to a statement by House Dems, the package of legislation involves two bills and a resolution: The first piece in the […]Read more ›
Conservatives shouldn’t let real life intrude on their “no compromise” worldview
Radio hate-monger Mike Huckabee told Newsmax TV that if Republicans compromise on marriage equality, “evangelicals will walk”. He then went on to describe how their homophobic political agenda doesn’t mean they’re homophobic and says that lawmakers shouldn’t allow their life experiences to guide their opinions on things like marriage equality and civil rights for the LGBT community. He finished up by comparing shifts in attitudes about same-sex marriage to bad basketball players.
I’m not kidding. Video proof after the jump.Read more ›
THIS is change you can believe in Vice President Joe Biden made a campaign stop in Chillicothe, Ohio today, popping in at a local Obama for America (OFA) office to fire up volunteers and speak with folks who were being called by the phonebank that was in progress. During the visit, he pulled off to the side to speak to […]Read more ›
Baby, the USA was born this way Here’s the good news. On a federal level, we have a President who refuses to defend the unconstitutional Defense of Marriage act. We need a Congress who will pass a law that grants same-sex couples all the federal benefits of marriage. We already, I believe, have a President who will sign that law. […]Read more ›
It’s time to get personal “The court finds that DOMA, as applied to Ms. Golinski, violates her right to equal protection of the law … without substantial justification or rational basis,” wrote White, who was named to the federal bench a decade ago by President George W. Bush. Los Angeles Times, 2/23/2012 The Defense of Marriage Act is probably the […]Read more ›
Insert, ‘Why shouldn’t they be as miserable as the rest of us?’ joke here Republicans aren’t aware of this but the debate about marriage equality is over. Washington state just approved it. Maryland is next. And New Jersey governor Chris Christie just vetoed a New Jersey law that would have made gay marriage legal. He wants to put the idea […]Read more ›
Grandma, why did you have to wait till you were 68 to marry grandma? For 59% of college freshmen, gay marriage is as controversial as bar soap v. liquid soap. So when Washington State legalized gay marriage today, I’m still left a bit distraught that these couples had to wait so long to marry the people they love. Even worse, […]Read more ›
