Baby needs a new web server

So, yesterday, LOLGOP broke the internet. More accurately, he generated so much traffic at Eclectablog with his piece “Your Affordable Care Act Rebate Can Save Lives” that he overloaded the servers at our web hosting company and they shut us down for several hours. So, we need to upgrade and it’s going to cost about $600 per year to do that.

That’s the kind of thing we’re asking you for donations for: to keep Eclectablog humming along flawlessly, even when one of our posts hits the front page of Reddit and is getting nearly 500 hits per minute (I’m not kidding.)

It’s that time of the year again where we come to you, tip jar in hand, and ask you to support what we do here at Eclectablog. As most of you know, this is not a full-time gig for me, Anne and LOLGOP. It doesn’t even come close to paying the bills. We do these fundraisers to help offset our costs for equipment, travel, and fees for various things we do. In exchange, we bring you regularly updated content, insightful commentary, liveblogging, exclusive reporting and magnificent photography.

Back in 2010, President Obama began raising campaign funds by holding a contest where, for a donation of $3 or less, you could win dinner with him. Since then he’s held a bunch of them.

They a appear to be working because Mitt Romney has totally ripped off the idea.

This post took way longer than I had hoped but I traveled for work last week, spent the day at the Michigan Summit on Saturday and planted a monster garden yesterday so I simply have not had the time.

Welcome to the final stretches of our 7-day, second quarter fundraiser.

To recap, we don’t really make any money doing this so we hold fundraisers once a quarter to give you, our readers, a chance to help support us as we fight the anti-progressive monsters and LOL at the GOP as much as possible.
