Mark Ouimet: Wrong for Washtenaw County, wrong for Michigan

Mark Ouimet: Wrong for Washtenaw County, wrong for Michigan

On so many levels…

Back in 2010, I documented the obscene campaign run against Democrat Christine Green in Michigan’s 52nd State House District. While Michigan Republicans ran no less than five hideous robocalls against her, sent out mailings with her home phone number on them and generally ran a smear campaign against one of the most upstanding citizens in the Ann Arbor area, Mark Ouimet sat back and allowed it to happen. And, all the while, said he was going to bring peace and civility to the House and work across the aisle with Democrats in our state legislature.

This turned out to be completely false and was just one more in a long list of deceptions from Ouimet over the past two years.

My take on why Mark Ouimet does not deserve to represent the 52nd District after the jump.

Punkins! Punkins! Punkins! The coolest Punkins evah!

Punkins! Punkins! Punkins! The coolest Punkins evah!

Happy Halloween!

This was VERY popular the last couple of years so I’m reposting for your Halloween viewing pleasure.

Enjoy.

I love Halloween but I’m not much of a punkin carver. However, I love looking at them. Here’s a bunch of the coolest punkins I could find on the web.

Well, except this one. It was taken by my wife:

Many, many more (including punkin computer wallpaper) after the jump.

Mitt Romney holds Ohio campaign event not-so-cleverly disguised as a “storm relief charity event”

Mitt Romney holds Ohio campaign event not-so-cleverly disguised as a “storm relief charity event”

Shameless and crass

Mitt Romney claimed to be suspending his campaign during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy which devastated the East Coast last night and continues to impose its wrath. However, that’s pretty much NOT what he did. Instead, an Ohio campaign event was hurriedly renamed a “relief charity event”. As the event began, the standard Romney bio video was shown on a huge screen. The press was invited, too. As John Aravosis at AMERICAblog points out, why invite the press if this is for charity???

More details with pictures and tweets after the jump.

Can’t get out to GOTV? How about doing a little something to help the folks who can?

Can’t get out to GOTV? How about doing a little something to help the folks who can?

Feed and supply the troops!

In my piece yesterday “Get Out the Vote (GOTV) – Ann Arbor-style“, I mentioned how a couple stopped by our Obama campaign office with a box of Bunny Grahams and thanked us for what we were doing. It was a small gesture but it really perked us up and put smiles on everyone’s faces.

My wife has had some trouble with her back that has kept her from knocking doors. But, she wanted to do something so she packaged up a bunch of her Obama photomosaic posters and sent them to Obama offices all around Ohio to sell to raise funds for their office or to give to volunteers that are going above and beyond the call of duty.

It’s completely in line with the title of the poster “Forward Together” and for Anne’s motivation for creating the image in the first place.

What she didn’t expect was to get an email like the one she got. Read it after the jump.

Mich Supreme Court candidate Bridget McCormack’s West Wing video blooper outtakes + last ad

Mich Supreme Court candidate Bridget McCormack’s West Wing video blooper outtakes + last ad

We need to educate our friends, relatives and coworkers!

The Detroit Free Press released an astonishing poll recently that showed that in the two Supreme Court races, one for a partial term and one with two seats open for full terms, more than 75% of voters are undecided. Three-quarters of the voters don’t know who to vote for. Of course, Eclectablog readers know:

Now it’s time to share this information with as many Michiganders as you can. An easy way of doing that, of course, is to print out the Eclectablog Voters Guide (pdf) and hand it out widely.

As your reward, I present you with the the bloopers and outtakes from Bridget McCormack’s massively viral West Wing public service announcement (after the jump.)

Anti-union “Protecting Michigan Taxpayers” sues PTA for Prop 2 endorsement

Whoa. Now they’re getting REALLY desperate

Congressman Gary Peters sent out a statement today revealing that the anti-union, pro-Big Business “Protecting Michigan Taxpayers” sued the Michigan Parent Teachers Association (PTA) for their endorsement of Proposal 2, the Protect Working Families ballot proposal that would put collective bargaining protections in our state constitution.

Details after the jump.

Meatloaf pays a fitting tribute to Mitt Romney

Meatloaf pays a fitting tribute to Mitt Romney

Derp

This must-see video is must-see because it’s never NOT funny to watch a visibly wasted Meatloaf slaughter a patriotic American anthem with his arm draped around Mitt Romney’s neck. It happened at a campaign stop in Ohio last week when Mitt was joined onstage by country musicians Randy Owens, John Rich and Big Kenny along with Meatloaf.

Enjoy. And I do mean enjoy (after the jump.)

Enbridge Energy funds anti-Proposal 3 effort, President Clinton endorses

Enbridge Energy funds anti-Proposal 3 effort, President Clinton endorses

Vote YES! on Michigan Proposal 3

Enbridge Energy, the company that owns the pipeline that spilled over a million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River has donated $10,000 to Clean Affordable Renewable Energy (CARE) for Michigan, the deceptively-named group fighting Proposal 3 which would require 25% of Michigan’s energy be from renewable sources by 2025. Clean Water Action is decrying this donation and demanding they spend their money cleaning up the environment catastrophe they are responsible for.

Meanwhile, President Bill Clinton has endorsed a YES vote on Prop 3. Details of both after the jump.

UPDATED: Get Out the Vote (GOTV) – Ann Arbor-style

UPDATED: Get Out the Vote (GOTV) – Ann Arbor-style

That’s the way it’s done, kids

In downtown Ann Arbor, tucked into Braun Court in Kerrytown, sits one of two offices for the Obama campaign. We’re right across from the Farmer’s Market and surrounded by some of the coolest stores and eateries in the city so we get a lot of foot traffic going by while we do our work to get out the vote (GOTV) for President Obama, Democrats in general and the variety of ballot proposals that Michiganders have to vote on this year.

The Kerrytown office is one of several GOTV staging locations in Washtenaw County and we are surpassing our goals on all fronts. See what that looks like after the jump.

Sunday Morning fun political videos break

Sunday Morning fun political videos break

Heh, heh…

Taking a break from the political scene is probably not something I’m going to be able to do between now and election day. I spent about 11 hours training canvassers and keeping their data organized yesterday at our downtown Ann Arbor office. We had over 1,100 door knocks by the end of the beautiful fall day.

However, there’s no reason we can’t have a little fun so here are a couple political videos that gave me a chuckle this morning. The first actually came out in August from the cast of the Broadway production of Les Miserable. The production values are amazing and the message is both hysterical and dead serious. It’s called “One Term More” and you can learn more about it at their website.

That video and more after the jump.

Did Mitt Romney Just Surrender Ohio?

Did Mitt Romney Just Surrender Ohio?

Clear eyes. Full heart. Can’t win Ohio. Mitt Romney’s campaign has been doing the Charlie Sheen-iest to pretend they’re winning. But the facts are pretty obvious. If they can’t win Ohio, Wisconsin and Nevada, they’re done. Romney has never led in Ohio. President Obama has basically been running for “President of Ohio,” as Jon Stewart calls it for four years.
