If PR folks and reality stars want to get away with saying awful things, they should become a GOP party official

You know that Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has been suspended by A&E from his reality show for saying that homosexuality leads to bestiality. In the same interview he also said black people were happier during segregation. (And what evidence do we have that they weren’t? Except the civil rights movement.) Right wingers are ignoring the comments about Jim Crow […]

UPDATED: Bankruptcy judge does Detroiters a solid, says Emergency Manager’s debt swap deal is “too generous” to banks

Please, sir, may I have some more? [Photo by Chris Savage | Eclectablog] Steven Rhodes, the federal judge overseeing Detroit’s Chapter 9 bankruptcy, halted discussions on Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr’s plan to borrow $350 from Barclay’s bank to retire some terribly negotiated debt swaps, effectively moving banks to the head of the line in the bankruptcy proceedings. In what can […]

Tea party PAC calls LGBT advocacy group Equality Michigan a “hate group” and homophobe Dave Agema “a prophet”

Under fire and on the run You can always tell when you have the tea party backed into a corner. That’s when they bring out the Big Crazy guns with both barrels blazing. That happened this week when the tea party’s Madison Project Michigan PAC sent out an email from Jack Hoogendyk, a tea partier who primaried U.S. Representative Fred […]

Michigan woman’s new insurance costs just $123 a month

She couldn’t get covered because of a pre-existing condition. That’s all changed thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Robin Wojta of Berkley, Mich., always had great health insurance through her husband’s work … until they got divorced about a year and a half ago. Their kids stayed on his plan, but Wojta had to fend for herself. She couldn’t afford […]

Obamacare is working just as it should: People are getting covered

I should know. I’m one of the many Americans enrolling with increasing speed and success. When I opened my mail on Monday, what did I find? A shiny new insurance card from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan — for my coverage purchased at Healthcare.gov. It kicks in on January 1, 2014, exactly the way it’s supposed to. The video […]

PODCASTS: Catching up with Tony Trupiano’s latest podcasts

PODCASTS: Catching up with Tony Trupiano’s latest podcasts

As i mentioned last week, radio show host extraordinaire Tony Trupiano is leaning “more than 90%” toward a run for the 13th district state house seat. Because of this, he has not resumed his radio program Night Shift with Tony Trupiano. That hasn’t stopped our intrepid broadcaster, however and he has continued doing podcasts.

The podcast format has been a joy because it allows for more relaxed conversations than the rigid 30-minute radio segments offer, plus they aren’t interrupted by a commercial break.

How does the GOP punish homophobes? Partial Standing Ovations

How does the GOP punish homophobes?
Partial Standing Ovations

Earlier this year GOP national committeeman Dave Agema posted a vile commentary on gays and lesbians authored by a known white supremacist. How did the Republican National Committee punish him for such an egregious example of hate as they were gearing up for a season of outreach? They passed Agema’s resolution denouncing same-sex marriage. Take that! Obviously, Agema learned his […]
