Romney finishes big: Closes his campaign with the most outrageous lie yet (& gets hammered for it)

Romney finishes big: Closes his campaign with the most outrageous lie yet (& gets hammered for it)

At least he’s consistent…

You have to hand it to Mitt Romney. While he may not be consistent on his political positions — okay, he’s NOT consistent on his political positions — at least he’s consistent in the fact that he’s willing to brazenly lie to the American people in order to win the Presidency.

His most recent lie — that Jeep is shipping jobs to China — is almost poetic in its hubris. It started with a statement on the campaign trail when it was added to his stump speech. He then doubled down and made a television ad out of it. He then tripled down and made a radio spot and with that one, he included GM as a domestic vehicle manufacturer shipping jobs to China. None of this is true.

And then the stuff hit the fan for Romney. More after the jump.

By Popular Demand: GOP Rape Advisory Chart (Vol. IV)

Recently I said I was finally done with these things, but with yet ANOTHER idiotic, offensive statement by a Republican about rape victims the other day, I’ve been turned into Al Pacino in Godfather III* I therefore present the Republican Rape Advisory Chart…Volume IV. I’ve also included links to the complete 4-volume set; feel free to use/repost as appropriate, but please […]

Corporations Are Fact Checkers, My Friend

Corporations Are Fact Checkers, My Friend

REMINDER: Our last two Republican businessman presidents were Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush Imagine being so full of bullshit that you turn everyone around you into a fact checker—it’s almost like a fable or a Greek myth. But it’s also become our presidential election. You know the man I’m talking about. The world’s record holder for Politifact Pants-on-Fire awards, […]

Mitt Romney holds Ohio campaign event not-so-cleverly disguised as a “storm relief charity event”

Mitt Romney holds Ohio campaign event not-so-cleverly disguised as a “storm relief charity event”

Shameless and crass

Mitt Romney claimed to be suspending his campaign during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy which devastated the East Coast last night and continues to impose its wrath. However, that’s pretty much NOT what he did. Instead, an Ohio campaign event was hurriedly renamed a “relief charity event”. As the event began, the standard Romney bio video was shown on a huge screen. The press was invited, too. As John Aravosis at AMERICAblog points out, why invite the press if this is for charity???

Meatloaf pays a fitting tribute to Mitt Romney

Meatloaf pays a fitting tribute to Mitt Romney

Derp

This must-see video is must-see because it’s never NOT funny to watch a visibly wasted Meatloaf slaughter a patriotic American anthem with his arm draped around Mitt Romney’s neck. It happened at a campaign stop in Ohio last week when Mitt was joined onstage by country musicians Randy Owens, John Rich and Big Kenny along with Meatloaf.

Enjoy. And I do mean enjoy (after the jump.)

Did Mitt Romney Just Surrender Ohio?

Did Mitt Romney Just Surrender Ohio?

Clear eyes. Full heart. Can’t win Ohio. Mitt Romney’s campaign has been doing the Charlie Sheen-iest to pretend they’re winning. But the facts are pretty obvious. If they can’t win Ohio, Wisconsin and Nevada, they’re done. Romney has never led in Ohio. President Obama has basically been running for “President of Ohio,” as Jon Stewart calls it for four years. Reality intrudes on Mitt Romney’s dream world. So does Nate Silver.

Reality intrudes on Mitt Romney’s dream world. So does Nate Silver.

“[Nate] Silver’s facts are being fired like bullets into the heart of the Romney campaign.”

Dan Hodges has a great piece in The Telegraph today titled “Nate Silver, the geeky statistician who is single-handedly dismantling the myth of Mitt-mentum”. It goes into great detail about the fantasy world that the Romney campaign is trying to hypnotize American voters with, creating a completely false narrative that Obama is on the ropes and they are in the lead with all the momentum.

As Hodges so perfectly shows, it’s a complete sham. Details (with GRAPHS!) after the jump.

The GOP Rape Advisory Chart: Volume III

The GOP Rape Advisory Chart: Volume III

Yes, that’s right. Just like Peter Jackson’s production of The Hobbit, I’ve found so much raw material to work with that I decided to break what was originally a single story into two, and now three sections. As I reported yesterday, in addition to being front-paged here at Eclectablog and at dKos, the first chart went utterly viral, hitting everything […]

VIDEO: Former Secretary of State General Colin Powell endorses Pres. Obama – “Romney’s foreign policy is a moving target”

VIDEO: Former Secretary of State General Colin Powell endorses Pres. Obama – “Romney’s foreign policy is a moving target”

This dude knows foreign policy and doesn’t like what he sees

Four Star General Colin Powell, the Secretary of State under George W. Bush, gave a full-throated endorsement of the reelection of President Obama this morning on the CBS This Morning show that was as much a condemnation of Mitt Romney’s “Romnesia” and constant shifting of positions on foreign policy and other issues as anything else. He told Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell, “You know, I voted for him in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012, and I’ll be voting for he and Vice President Joe Biden next month.”

In his endorsement, he characterized Romney’s foreign policy as “a moving target” and pointed out that the candidate is advised by and has views enspoused by neoconservatives with a thirst for war in the Middle East.

Romney says he’ll balance the budget in “EIGHT TO TEN years”, slams Obama for not doing it in FOUR

Romney says he’ll balance the budget in “EIGHT TO TEN years”, slams Obama for not doing it in FOUR

WTF?

Here’s something you may have missed during last night’s debate. Although the debate was supposed to be about foreign policy, it often veered back to domestic policy and the economy. During one of those veers, Mitt Romney said this:

“Come on our website. You look at how we get to a balanced budget within eight to 10 years. We do it by getting — by reducing spending in a whole series of programs.”

See why this is an unbelievably hypocritical statement after the jump.

Only in America can Romney look so foolish and yet not lose ground in the polls

Only in America can Romney look so foolish and yet not lose ground in the polls

Drubbing. Clobbered. Embarrassed. Schooled. Pwned.

I made a prediction last night and it was this:

“This debate won’t change the polls. It will harden the camps and confuse the stupid people who are still ‘undecided’.”

Why? Because we are so polarized in the USA right now that the people who are paying attention and actually get most of what’s going on in our national discussion have already chosen their candidate and are simply looking for reinforcement of the choice. The remaining people — the so-called “undecideds” — are simply low-information voters. Which is, of course, the nice way to say “dumb”.

Seriously, if you can’t make up your mind between these two candidates by now, there is something wrong.

Much more analysis after the jump.
