Support citizen journalism or democracy dies Have you ever read anything on this site that made you go, “Why didn’t I think of it that way?” or “Why am I not reading about this anywhere else?” or “I didn’t know that!” I hear from people all of the time that tell me that Eclectablog is literally their primary source for […]

Kalkaska-based Team Services busted spraying toxic solvents on Benzie County roads

Hmmm…where have I heard that company’s name before…? Team Services, LLC, self-described as “the leading provider of well services to the oil and gas industry throughout the United States”, has been caught spraying oilfield brines containing toxic solvents on unpaved roads in Benzie County. Brining is done for dust suppression. I was first alerted to this by Karla and Bryan […]

Now THAT is a party!

As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, Rene and Matt Greff, owners of Arbor Brewing Company and the Corner Brewery are huge supporters of Mark Schauer to be Michigan’s next governor. This past Saturday, they held a fundraising party for him at their home in Ypsilanti and it was a rousing success.

After the jump are some photos taken by Anne C. Savage along with some choice quotes from the evening. More photos can be seen on Anne’s Facebook page.

Detroit EAA admins make Brooke Harris’s pretermination hearing closed to the public & move venue

So much for “PUBLIC” schools… As I wrote about earlier in the week, Brooke Harris, the teacher fired from a Pontiac charter school for helping students organize a fundraiser for the family of Trayvon Martin, is about to be fired again. This time, it appears to be because of her outspokenness about the poor learning environment in Education Achievement Authority […]

Fear the tampon

[Photo/meme credit: Anne C. Savage, special to Eclectablog]

Last night the Texas Senate passed some of the most restrictive anti-Choice legislation in the country. It will reduce the number of clinics where Texas women can obtain a safe and LEGAL abortion to just five for the entire state.

At 2:22 p.m. yesterday, Burnt Orange Report reported that women were being forced to discard their tampons and pads before entering the legislative gallery. I’m not kidding.

Much more after the jump including a larger version of the Eclectameme.

Pontiac teachers’ health insurance cancelled when district uses insurance premiums to balance its books

They’re being attacked from ALL sides This story is truly outrageous. Pontiac teachers have filed a lawsuit against the Pontiac school district for collecting money from their paychecks for health insurance coverage and then using the money to make their bottom line look better to the state of Michigan rather than paying premiums. As a result, the teachers’ health coverage […]
