You ain’t from around here is you, boy?

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker had quite a day yesterday. First, he was greeted by upwards of 2,000 protesters at an speech for the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. Then, when he got to Michigan, he was greeted by a crowd estimated to be anywhere from 1,300 to nearly 3,000.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was greeted in Michigan by nearly 2,000 union protesters chanting for his recall, but inside the San Marino Club the embattled governor received a standing ovation from GOP faithful cheering his reforms.

The Republican governor is trying to hold onto his job in the aftermath of his successful efforts to curb collective bargaining rights for public employees in Wisconsin.

PROTEST: Michigan GOP fundraiser tonight featuring Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

Birds of a feather

The most-reviled governor in the country, Scott Walker of Wisconsin, will be in Troy Michigan tonight to headline a Republican fundraiser. The venue is the same one where Americans for Prosperity held their forum a couple of months ago — The San Marino Club on Big Beaver Road.

As you might imagine, there will be a protest. The Michigan chapter of the National Action Network headed by Rev. Charles Willams II has teamed up with the UAW and will be joined by Occupy Detroit, other labor unions, local pastors and other groups to issue “subpoenas” to the two “Co-Conspirators.…

Billboard supporting Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s job creation in front of shuttered plant

This is from the terrific blog Defend Wisconsin

A photo of a billboard in Janesville, Wisconsin, featuring a smiling Scott Walker, was captured on camera and posted as a pic on Facebook. Besides a smiling Scott Walker, the billboard states in Walker-campaign font: Scott Walker Creating Jobs for Wisconsin. Below, the billboard asks the readers to call Governor Walker and thank him. The advertisement is paid for by the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce association, long known in Wisconsin as a powerful arm of the Republican party.

Turns out that the pro-Walker billboard sits in front of a Janesville, Wisconsin GM plant that was closed in 2008.…

Recall of Wisc Gov Scott Walker gathers 300,000+ signatures in 12 days

It’s amazing what can happen when a state-level Democratic Party joins up with grassroots activists to recall overstepping Republicans. United Wisconsin and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin announced yesterday that they have gathered over 300,000 signatures to recall Scott Walker in just 12 days. They need a total of 540,206 valid signatures by January and their goal is 750,000.

Meanwhile, back in Michigan, what is the Michigan Democratic Party doing? Promoting a new website and 30-minute ad to go after Mitt Romney.

Does anybody but me find it astonishing that this is how the MDP is spending its time at the moment?…

Occupy Chicago protesters shut down WI Gov. Walker appearance with The People’s Microphone

This is exactly the kind of civil disobedience I can completely get behind. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker appeared at a public policy breakfast at the Union League Club in Chicago. A collection of about 50 Occupy protestors purchased tickets and sat quietly, dressed to the nines, eating, conversing and waiting. Waiting until Governor Walker took the podium to give a speech.

At that point, the protesters stood up and used The People’s Microphone to completely shut down Walker’s speech.

Watch it:

Now that is how you get a message across and out to the world. Positively brilliant.

For tea party Republicans, it’s business as usual — and then some

Nepotism is so offensive that, when you see it, your first instinct is to want to shake someone by the lapels, shake them silly, then throw them out into the street.

In this case, it would be Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker lying in the dirt and dust in the road in front of the saloon.

It’s good to be born to people who know people.

That’s largely the perception many Wisconinites are taking away from this weekend’s revelation that the son of a major political donor to Republican Governor Scott Walker landed a very well-heeled post in the state’s Department of Commerce with apparent ease.

Indiana prosecutor advised Scott Walker to stage an assault on himself

To fully tell this story, you have to go back to the beginning of the protest rallies in Madison, Wisconsin.

On February 17th, Governor Walker told the press that his office had received “over 8,000 emails” which he said were mostly supportive of his efforts to smash the unions.

“The more than 8,000 emails we got today, the majority are telling us to stay firm, to stay strong, to stand with the taxpayers,” Walker said of the emails. “While the protesters have every right to be heard, I’m going to make sure the taxpayers of the state are heard and their voices are not drowned out by those circling the Capitol.”

The very next day, he said the number was 19,000 and, still, with the “majority in favor” of his actions.…

Wisconsin State Senator Jauch eviscerates Governor Scott Walker

Wisconsin State Senator Bob Jauch issued a press release today. Jauch is one of the 14 Democrats who have left the state to deny Governor Scott Walker a quorum in the Senate which would allow him to strip away the collective bargaining rights of teachers and other public employees. Walker recently tried to portray Jauch as wanting to return to Wisconsin and revealed confidential conversations between Jauch and the Governor’s staff as evidence of this.

Jauch positively eviscerates Walker in his press release and emphatically denies that he is going to be returning to Wisconsin any time soon or that he is somehow giving up the fight that he and the other 13 Senators are waging on behalf of the union members.…

The police state at the Wisconsin Capitol continues, tea party rally a joke

As I wrote about last week, Wisconsin State Representative Nick Milroy was tackled when he tried to enter the Capitol Building on Thursday night. Here’s the video:

This police state environment at the Wisconsin Capitol continues this week. Talking Points Memo is reporting that the key cards of staff AND LEGISLATORS have been turned off, denying them direct entrance to the building. Now all staff must pass through what security checkpoints that closely resemble TSA security checkpoints at airports complete with metal detectors and hundreds of police officers who now literally occupy the Capitol building during work hours.

Milroy has described the situation as an “armed-palace environment” and said that Governor Walker has “basically turned the Capitol into a police state.”

Each legislative office is given eight passes to issue to constituents each day.…

Firefighters were denied access to Wisc. Capitol; live ammo found outside

Last night a judge ordered the Wisconsin Capitol building closed during non-work hours creating an exodus as protesters left the building, ending a 17-day occupation. Governor Scott Walker has instituted draconian security checkpoints that were detailed in great detail HERE.

[T]oday when I went to the capitol to visit my representative, Janis Ringhand, and discuss my concerns about the governor’s proposed budget and its effects on natural resources, I was treated like a common criminal. Instead of walking freely through the capitol building, I was subjected to the myriad humiliations of a woman visiting her husband in federal prison. I was forced to empty my pockets of every dime, expose all my belongings to the scrutiny of a line of officers, even take off my coat so that I could be security-wanded by an officer.…
