A photographer’s perspective of Netroots Nation, PHOTOBLOG Part 1 — Let’s get to work!

A photographer’s perspective of Netroots Nation, PHOTOBLOG Part 1 — Let’s get to work!

Energized for the work ahead

This was my first year at Netroots Nation. I was one of the Netroots Nation staff photographers, and feel very privileged to be included in such a talented group. My first experience with Netroots might have been quite different if I had just bought a ticket and gone. I tend to be a little shy in those kinds of settings. I would have gone to the talks that interested me, hung with people I knew and maybe spent more time on my computer than I needed to. I would have had a great experience, but being a staff photographer enabled me to experience it in a unique way and it has inspired me to write this as a prologue to my clearer voice, my photographs.

Netroots for the Troops 2012 recap – blood was spilled (PHOTOS)

It’s what we do The Netroots for the Troops 2012 went off almost entirely without a hitch. Although, due to a lack of donations this year, we were only able to pack 150 boxes, half of what we’ve done previously, it was still a wonderful thing to behold. [Photos by Anne C. Savage (with watermark) and angelajean (without watermark)] Here […]

Netroots Nation 2012 recap

Whew! That was intense!

28 hours of driving and over four days of intense networking and progressive liberal immersion later, I’m finally catching my breath from Netroots Nation 2012. This year my wife and blogging partner Anne joined me and was a staff photographer for the event. She took over 5,000 photos and we’ll have photoblogs rolling out over the next few days.

Some of the highlights for me after the jump.

Netroots for the Troops — Progressives turning out to help out our military men and women

Yes, I’m asking for your money again

Yes, yes, yes. It’s that time again. Time for the awesomeness that is Netroots for the Troops®. Wait, you don’t know what NFTT is? NFTT is a what I call “The 33-Minute Miracle”. I’ll tell you why in a minute.

Every year at the annual Netroots Nation conference, the largest event of the year for progressive blogggers, writers and activists, a group of dedicated individuals pull of an major service event where hundreds of CARE packages are assembled and then shipped to our troops over seas. This year, we’re including some vets that are in U.S. hospitals, returned from war.

You can help by making a donation HERE.

(Much more after the jump.)

C’mon, EclectaReaders. We can do WAY better than this. It costs NOTHING to support this worthy effort.

C’mon, EclectaReaders. We can do WAY better than this. It costs NOTHING to support this worthy effort.

You may have seen my previous post about Lauren Reichelt (TheFatLadySings) and her effort to expand the number of “People of Color” at Netroots Nation by bringing a large group of folks from her area. To do this, she is applying for a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh grant. Right now, her grant stands at a sad #104. From Netroots Nation coordinator […]

There’s one big problem with the Netroots Nation conference – and YOU can help fix that!

There’s one big problem with the Netroots Nation conference – and YOU can help fix that!

I’ve been to two Netroots Nation conferences so far and, wow, what a rush. But, there is one thing about it that bothers me and I am not the only one: it’s pretty much all white people. Seriously. We are a lily white group of progressive conference attendees. There is an effort afoot to help fix that and without spending […]
