Read more ›Last night, the Detroit NAACP held its 57th Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner. This was a particularly auspicious event because this is the 100-year anniversary of the Detroit branch of the NAACP.
It is hard to understate the immensity of this event. Upwards of 6,000 people attended this gala event at the Cobo Center in Detroit. There were five podiums set up, ringing the room, each with a long line of seats for dignitaries stretching out on both sides.
The press conference before the event was attended not only by the award winners but such dignitaries as…

Read more ›As I wrote last Thursday, Republican Joe Schwarz, who was being wooed by the Democratic Party to run in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District on their behalf, decided last week NOT to run. This left only Kurt Haskell as the only candidate on the Democratic side and he is “a conspiracy theorist who worries about ‘government overreach’, talks about cutting taxes in the middle of a recession and isn’t a proponent an essential part of the Affordable Care Act.”

Schwarz was being recruited by Michigan Democrats to cross over despite his career as a Republican.
What we’re left with is … well … follow me over the jump and down the rabbit hole.

You probably remember that the USS Lincoln was in the Persian Gulf at the time and our “Wartime President” was there to celebrate the liberation of Iraq. Right?

Read more ›In a perfect confluence of democratic goings-on, I hereby dub May 5th, 2012 Democracy Day in Michigan. Two key events are happening that day. First, from 9 a.m. until noon, Democrats across the state will caucus to choose Barack Obama as their candidate for President of the United States.
Then, starting at 2 p.m., there will be a rally on the grounds of the State Capitol to kick-off the second attempt to gather enough signatures to put the recall on Governor Rick Snyder on the November ballot. If you can’t make it to the rally, it will be live-streamed here at Eclectablog.
