The Death of a Campaign: Pete Hoekstra continues to pay for his racist campaign ad

by

Karma’s a bitch, eh, buddy?

Pete Hoekstra’s “Debbie Spenditnow” Superbowl ad is the gift that keeps on giving.

To Democrats.

Poll results over the past few weeks show Hoekstra sinking like a rock:

This week, he got more good tragic news for his campaign: among registered voters, Stabenow now leads Hoekstra 53% to 32%.

But the best news for Democrats? This:

Yup. According to the Detroit Free Press, Hoekstra is crushing his opponents with 48% of the vote in their latest poll. The nearest contender is “Undecided” with 40%, followed by Clark Durant with 5%.

Meanwhile, Hoekstra has comically gone around the innernetz in a vain attempt to scrub the racist stain of his ad away.

Hoekstra, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, has scrubbed all mention of the ad featuring an actress portraying a Chinese woman speaking in broken English from his campaign Facebook page and YouTube account. […]

Now the ad is gone from his Facebook page (as captured in this screenshot, which shows all entries from Feb. removed) as well as his YouTube account. More interestingly, Hoekstra’s defense of the ad has also been scrubbed from YouTube (as this screenshot shows).

That’s a far cry from his initial “excitement” about the ad.

“We knew we were taking an aggressive approach on this, but this is a time when the people of Michigan and across the country are fed up with the spending. It hits Debbie smack dab between the eyes where she is vulnerable with the voters of Michigan. I’m excited . . . it has jump started the debate.”

Someone got hit smack dab between the eyes in this whole thing, for sure. It was Pete Hoekstra getting hit by the Karma Train.
