How is this a winning strategy for Republicans?

by

Several recent polls say that the top issue for Americans right now is unemployment. So what do Republicans do? Filibuster and block a bill that would extend unemployment benefits for upwards of 1.2 million Americans.

Also this week, they blocked passage of a bill that would help homeless female veterans and veterans with children. No, seriously.

I can not for the life of me figure out how, after eight years of a Republican president and six years controlling Congress and running up massive deficits (after coming in with a SURPLUS), these idiots think that getting the deficit reduction bug NOW in the middle of an economic crisis is somehow a good idea. Their actions this week are cold and heartless and lack even a shred of compassion. When Americans are losing their jobs and their homes and being forced onto welfare or worse, do Republicans honestly think these people give a flying fark about the damn deficit? Really???

I’ve got news for them: they don’t. The deficit is not on the minds of people who are losing their unemployment right now. And watching them walk away from their responsibilities to homeless vets, people who have sacrificed for our country in the military, is a lesson in total and utter hypocrisy on the part of Republicans.

The election is in a few short months and if they think that Democrats will let voters forget that they have used the filibuster to throw over a million people off unemployment in the midst of a recession/depression and they have turned their backs on our most vulnerable veterans, they couldn’t possibly be more wrong. That said, part of me hopes they keep it up.

It’ll ensure victory for Dems in November.

I’m just sayin’…

Speaking of vets, don’t forget to toss a coupla bucks in the kitty on your way out the door. I’m raising funds for the creation of several hundred CARE packages to be sent to men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan and every little bit helps. Please give what you can. Click HERE to donate. Thanks.
