Michael Reagan: Big Govt. responsible for economic crash

by

Michael Reagan, adopted son of President Ronald Reagan, gave a talk in Livingston County, Michigan this past week. In his speech, he blamed Big Government for the economic crisis that started in 2007:

He said the federal government, more so than large lending institutions, was responsible for the financial meltdown that began in 2007. Michael Reagan said the government, through stiff regulations, forced banks to make what became ill-advised loans.

See? Big Bad Gubmint made ’em do it.

Like his father, Michael Reagan is full of quaint stories. Like this one that, if you ask me, speaks volumes:

Michael Reagan shared the story of how as an 8-year-old boy, his father refused his request for an allowance increase until his father received a federal tax break.

He said his allowance was raised from $1 to $5 when former President John F. Kennedy took office and enacted a tax cut.

He also had this interesting observation:

He said he’s often asked how his father would have dealt with the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and that he always answers the same way: “It wouldn’t have happened.”

To paraphrase Keith Olbermann: that man is an idiot.

Want more evidence of his idiocy? How about this:

In an April edition of the Daily Press & Argus, Michael Reagan referred to the city of Dearborn as “Dearbornistan,” and claimed that the highly Muslim-populated community is home to many people connected to the terrorist organization Hamas, as well as actual terrorists.

In most places, an idiot like Michael Reagan wouldn’t get much attention. Here in Livingston County, he gets front page billing. The Teabagger Times Livingston County Daily Press & Argus has been hyping this speech for weeks and this article appeared on the front page of the print edition. The article portrays him as a “why can’t we all just get along?” kinda guy. They start the article off quoting Reagan saying “the nation’s economic recovery will begin when leaders seek agreement, rather than stick to partisan divides, and are willing to work with people of all political ilk”. Yet, ironically, Reagan seems to have no self-awareness of the role he himself played over the years when he had a right-wing radio show of increasing the animosity between the right and the left.

Michael Reagan, who was a conservative radio host for nearly 30 years, said the saturated market of political talk shows — with Rush Limbaugh controlling all markets — has only contributed to political cynicism across the country.

Probably not a whole lotta mirrors in the ole Reagan household, methinks.

In contrast to his calls for bipartisan ship, well, let’s just say WTF??? Just last month he had this to say:

“The other side, their job is undermining the pillars of this society and they never, never, ever stop.”

Not only is he an idiot, that man is a hypocrite.

I’m just sayin’…
