When Is a Crime Not a Crime?

I assumed that if you break a law, it’s “crime”. Kinda by definition, right?

Not according to our Attorney General, Michael Mukasey. Turns out he’s NOT going to prosecute Justice Department staffers who broke laws regarding hiring practices that involved political considerations.

Mukasey used his sharpest words yet to criticize the senior leaders who took part in or failed to stop illegal hiring practices during the tenure of his predecessor, Alberto Gonzales.

But, he told delegates to the American Bar Association annual meeting, “not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime. In this instance, the two joint reports found only violations of the civil service laws.”

So, as it turns out, not every violation of the law is a crime. Who knew?

Someone needs to inform the Webster’s Dictionary people.

I’m just sayin’…
