Convention Mania – Michigan Democrats are fired up and ready to GO!

I’ll just sleep in mid-November…

Anne and I arrived home from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC at about 11:30 p.m. Friday night. The next morning I was on the road at 6:30 a.m. to the Michigan Democratic Party’s State Convention which took place over two days this weekend at the Lansing Center in Lansing. Like me, there were a LOT of faded looking people there but, despite their weariness, Day One of the convention was a huge success; well-attended and with high energy.

Pete Hoekstra hypcritically wants to eliminate direct election of Senators while running for Senate

Hoo boy…

You have to hand it to Pete Houkstra — the man has gall. He’s running for Senate against Senator Debbie Stabenow and yet he wants to repeal the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that allows for the direct election of Senators.

I wish I were kidding.

Pete Hoekstra’s racist “Debbie Spenditnow” ad accidentally aired again in Flint and Saginaw

Oopsie

Remember that racist “Yellow Girl” Superbowl ad Pete Hoekstra ran last winter? (You can read my pieces on it HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.) Somehow a station in the Flint/Saginaw area ran it again this morning by accident.

Oops.

Pete Hoekstra releases new ad highlighting his failed fight to kill the Affordable Care Act

Pete Hoekstra releases new ad highlighting his failed fight to kill the Affordable Care Act

Oh, yeah, that’s gonna work, Pete

Last February, I asked the question “Is media group that produced Pete Hoekstra’s racist ad full of Democrats?”

I’m asking this question again because Hoekstra’s latest ad basically highlights his failure to stop the Affordable Care Act that he claims “takes your freedoms away”. With last week’s Supreme Court ruling, all this ad does is show how bloody ineffective he is.

Why Debbie Stabenow will crush Pete Hoekstra in November

Why Debbie Stabenow will crush Pete Hoekstra in November

Between a tea bag and a hard place

Poor Pete Hoekstra. He tries so hard but fails so big. His “Yellow Girl” Superbowl ad all but tanked his candidacy. His fundraising in completely in the toilet and his Democratic opponent, should he win the primary (probably but not certain), is eating his lunch in terms of donations.

But his life is getting worse. Yesterday, the right-leaning Livingston County Press & Argus had a blistering op-ed accusing Hoekstra of doing what he very blatantly IS doing: trying to position himself as a bipartisan, work-across-the-aisle-with-the-other-guys, tea party.

No, I’m not kidding.

Pete Hoekstra sinks to a new low, calls for a Birther Office in Washington, D.C. staffed by the FBI & CIA

Are there really that many tea partiers out there to pander to??? After the embarrassment of his “Yellow Girl” video ad and numerous other faux pas over the years, Senate candidate Pete Hoestra dialed the “Whack-a-Doo” machine up to eleven recently by suggesting that there a department in Washington, D.C. with the sole purpose of investigating the birth certificates of […]

Detroit NAACP celebrates its 100-year anniversary with an impressive 57th Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner

Restoring hope for Detroit’s future

Last night, the Detroit NAACP held its 57th Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner. This was a particularly auspicious event because this is the 100-year anniversary of the Detroit branch of the NAACP.

It is hard to understate the immensity of this event. Upwards of 6,000 people attended this gala event at the Cobo Center in Detroit. There were five podiums set up, ringing the room, each with a long line of seats for dignitaries stretching out on both sides.

The press conference before the event was attended not only by the award winners but such dignitaries as…

Pete Hoekstra pays the price for racism and sexism

Pete Hoekstra pays the price for racism and sexism

Karma’s a hardass, Pete

Pete Hoekstra, the Republican Party’s leading hopeful to defeat Democrat Debbie Stabenow in November is not looking so hopeful these days. Right out of the chute he ran a clearly racist ad during the Superbowl. That was such a catastrophe that he has since scrubbed all mention of it from every corner of the internet he could.

This past week he joined the GOP’s War on Women by calling the Lilly Ledbetter Act — the law forces employers to pay women the same as men for equal work or face a lawsuit — “a nuisance”. Yes, Pete, it’s such a nuisance to pay the ladies the same as men.

All of this is taking its toll on Hoekstra’s campaign. In February, he was down in the polls against Stabenow 53-42%.

Now we find out his campaign donations are down by nearly a third.
