President Obama comes out of the gate powerfully against childish Republicans McCain & Graham

President Obama comes out of the gate powerfully against childish Republicans McCain & Graham

Game ON! I walked out of my hotel room this morning and this greeted me: It was a beautiful sight: President Obama setting a firm and adult-like tone against childish Republicans John “Who?” McCain and Lindsey “What about ME?” Graham who have suggested that they would filibuster an appointment of UN ambassador Susan Rice to be Secretary of State. President […]

Michigan Tea Party Republicans play chicken with Obama administration on health insurance exchanges

Michigan Tea Party Republicans play chicken with Obama administration on health insurance exchanges

Letting ideology trump protecting our most vulnerable citizens

Michigan’s Tea Party Republicans are doing everything in their power to block the formation of a state-run health insurance exchange. These state exchanges are mandated by the Affordable Care Act and, if they are not formed, the federal government will do it for them, taking away the state’s ability to control their own destiny. As I wrote last summer, this self-defeating behavior is harmful to Michigan’s most vulnerable citizens.

Fun links and Open Thread

This’ll never work…

I don’t generally do Open Threads because there is nothing lamer than an Open Thread with no comments. But, what the hell, I’m not afraid of lame. I embrace lame from time to time.

Some fun links after the jump to get you started.

Livingston County Press & Argus slams Bolger, Denby and Rogers. And rightfully so.

Livingston County Press & Argus slams Bolger, Denby and Rogers. And rightfully so.

When you lose Livingston County’s largest newspaper, you’ve lost

The Livingston County Press & Argus has a blistering op-ed today, slamming House Republicans for re-selecting known election fraudster Jase Bolger as their Speaker once again. They slam Bolger. They slam Livingston County House Represenatives Cindy Denby and Bill Rogers. Frankly, they slam almost the entire GOP House caucus.

And they pull exactly zero punches. Details after the jump.

The Republican Party is done at the national level

The Republican Party is done at the national level

You can thank Rush Limbaugh and Fox News for that There’s plenty of recrimination going on about why President Obama cleaned Mitt Romney’s clock in last week’s election. At the end of the day, however, the reason for the drubbing is simple: America is not a far-right, super-conservative nation. We are, largely, a centrist country that probably leans a tad […]

President Obama wastes no time claiming his mandate and spending his political capital

President Obama wastes no time claiming his mandate and spending his political capital

Seizing the moment

“Tuesday night, we found out that the majority of Americans agree with my approach”

That was President Obama yesterday wasting no time in claiming the mandate handed to him by a plurality of Americans: It’s time for an end to Republican obstructionism and, absolutely without question, it’s time to quit pretending that it’s acceptable to balance our budget and reduce our deficit by raising taxes on seniors and the middle class while letting our wealthiest Americans continue to avoid paying additional taxes. It was his first public appearance since the election and it was powerful.

1-term Michigan House Representative Mark Ouimet exits stage left without class or grace

1-term Michigan House Representative Mark Ouimet exits stage left without class or grace

“Nice guy”, my ass When we moved to Dexter about seven years ago, our State House Representative was the amazing House Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes. She was term limited out of office and, in the crashing tea party wave of 2010, this historically Democratic seat was lost to “Nice Guy” Republican Mark Ouimet. As I have reported in the […]

Karl Rove figured out how Barack Obama won on Tuesday: Voter suppression. I’m not kidding.

Aw geez, Karl. Just shut the hell up, wouldjya?

Karl Rove (aka “Turdblossom” and “Bush’s Brain”) has figured out how President Barack Obama managed to win re-election this year: Voter suppression.

No, seriously.

Details and Karl Rove-induced hilarity after the jump.

It’s a new day. Again.

It’s a new day. Again.

I’ve been fightin’ for tomorrow all my life

Shortly after Wednesday, November 5th, 2008, I changed my iPhone ringtone to “It’s A New Day” by will.i.am and I haven’t changed it since then. Over the past few weekends, whenever our GOTV canvassers called me in our Obama campaign office, my back pocket would ring out with that oh-so-perfect tune.

So much in the lyrics of will.i.am’s song resonated with me in 2008 and still do today, particularly this part:

If you and I made it this far,
Well then hey, we can make it all the way
And they said no we can’t
And we said yes we can
Remember it’s you and me together

I woke up this morning
Feeling alright
I’ve been fightin’ for tomorrow
All my life
Yeah, I woke up this morning
Feeling brand new
Cause the dreams that I’ve been dreaming
Have finally came true
