Register NOW for the Michigan Progressive Summit! – “The Persistence of the Resistance: Voices, Values, and Votes”

by

Regular readers of Eclectablog will know that I have been off the grid for the past few weeks while I recover from surgery. As a result, I will have to miss an exciting event that I haven’t missed in years: the annual Progress Michigan conference called the Michigan Progressive Summit.

But that doesn’t mean YOU have to miss it and you shouldn’t! This event is an essential part of Michigan’s progressive movement. It’s an opportunity to meet with other members of the progressive resistance, network, learn, share, and make new friends and connections.

“The Michigan Progressive Summit is a place for people to come together, no matter who they are or how long they have been engaged around issues,” said Denzel McCampbell, deputy communications director for Engage Michigan and an organizer of the Summit. “Folks will be able to come in, learn about issues, meet neighbors from across Michigan, and strategize how to make Michigan a better state for everyone, especially those from marginalized communities.”

Appropriately, the theme of the Summit this year is The Persistence of the Resistance: Voices, Values, and Votes. Plenary speakers include Brandon Dasent, a Parkland school shooting survivor and student activist; Desmond Meade, head of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition; and Erica Ford, a leader in the fight against gun violence and founder of LIFE Camp in New York City.

“We chose the theme of The Persistence of the Resistance: Voices, Values and Votes, because we know people are entering this space at different levels of experience,” McCampbell continued. “Whether you’ve been active for two years or 20 years, the Michigan Summit is the place for you. We want to make sure we are uplifting marginalized voices, connecting our shared values, and creating action at the ballot box and beyond.”

This year the Summit will be held in Flint on June 16th. Registration is now open and more information can be found at www.themichigansummit.org. The registration fee is $25 and includes lunch. If someone wishes to come and has financial restrictions, scholarships are available. Click HERE to register.

Whether you are a long-time veteran of fighting for progressive causes, new to the resistance movement, or something in between, the Michigan Progressive Summit is a conference you won’t want to miss. Since I cannot attend this year, I insist that ALL of our Michigan readers sign up TODAY and attend on my behalf! Trust me, you will not regret it. And it only costs $25!!!
