Tickets for the 11th Annual Health Care Heroes Celebration on June 17 available now!

Even those of us who applaud the gains made under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) agree: there’s a lot more work to be done. And MichUHCAN is one of the state organizations that’s critical to keeping the promise of health reform moving forward.

Michigan Universal Health Care Access Network (MichUHCAN) is a state-wide network that promotes comprehensive health care for all. The organization also works to make Michigan healthier through education, strategy development and advocacy.

MichUHCAN’s annual Health Care Heroes Celebration on June 17 is its biggest fundraising event of the year. The event supports the organization’s efforts, which include a team of experts from medicine, law and community groups working as a consistent voice for justice in Michigan health policy to protect the rights of patients and health care consumers. MichUHCAN also educates the public about how health care policy affects them and engages them to take action. Most important, MichUHCAN works with diverse groups to foster a health care system that is universal, available regardless of ability to pay, comprehensive and cost-efficient. The goal is to make sure everyone can easily access quality care.

The 11th Annual Health Care Heroes Celebration on Friday, June 17 is the perfect opportunity to support MichUHCAN — and learn about what’s next in health reform, from keynote speaker T.R. Reid. A former NPR commentator, Reid is an advocate for ColoradoCare, a state single-payer proposal, and author of the New York Times bestseller The Healing of America.

The event also features three heroes who will be honored for their work over the past year to advocate for improved health care quality and access:

  • State Representative Stephanie Chang: Legislative Health Care Hero, who is being honored for her legislative efforts to improve air and water quality.
  • Mayor John B. O’Reilly, City of Dearborn: Community Health Care Hero, whose work to improve health and wellness through the collaborative Healthy Dearborn campaign is being celebrated.
  • SEIU Healthcare / D15 Campaign: Organization Health Care Hero, which is being honored for its work as a union to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour in Detroit, which would improve the well-being and health of working people.

Don’t miss your chance to celebrate these heroes and support the great work MichUHCAN does all year long. The 2016 Health Care Heroes Celebration is Friday, June 17 from 7 to 10 pm, at the Wayne State University Law School Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights. Tickets are just $25 each.
