Day 4: First quarter fundraiser – We represent you, the people

Independent journalists like Team Eclectablog tell you what you need to know — and we tell it like it is.

Have you ever watched cable news or read a mainstream media post and wondered who was paying them to slant the story? The influence of corporate sponsors happens on both sides of the aisle at some networks and news outlets.

At Eclectablog, we admit a progressive bias, but there is no one telling us what to write. So we write what we think the public needs to know, without any interference.

In fact, when I started writing for Eclectablog I was pleasantly surprised when Chris Savage told me I didn’t need to run my post ideas past him first. “Write whatever you want,” he said. “We’re called ‘Eclectablog’ for a reason and you’re the writer.”

That’s why you’ll see an unparalleled diversity of topics here. Because we all write what we feel most strongly about, and we cover the stories we think the public needs to see.

And because we’re not beholden to corporate sponsors, we’re not afraid to say exactly what we think. If anything, we’re beholden to you — all of you who read Eclectablog — because it’s your support that keeps us going.

I can’t promise that you’ll agree with or even like everything we write, but every member of Team Eclectablog is here because we want our voices and viewpoints to be heard. We believe there’s information that needs to get out to the public, and the mainstream media isn’t always reporting it. We’re people and voters and members of the community, just like you. Which is why we will always put “we, the people” ahead of corporations and big-money interests.

We’re looking out for you, the people.

So we count on you to look out for us. Any donation you can give helps and there are three ways to contribute.

First, you can make your donation using the PayPal form below. You can change the amount if you wish. The default is $60 which is basically $1 per week after the fees are taken out, a pretty good value.

Or you can wait until the TinyPass pop-up pops up (every tenth click on the site) and donate that way. If you do that, the popups will go away as long as you have cookies enabled. Like with the Paypal form, the default amounts for annual or monthly donations can be adjusted to whatever you wish them to be. They are currently set to be around $1 per week. Again, it’s a great value.

Finally, if you would prefer to send a check, send me an email and I’ll give you the address. This is the most beneficial way for us because it avoids the Paypal and Tinypass fees that are taken from contributions to the site.

If you work for an organization that would like to support our efforts by placing an ad, click HERE for our ad rates and more information.

By the way, you don’t have to be an organization to run an ad. Maybe you’d like to surprise your favorite progressive with a birthday message on Eclectablog or help promote your favorite group. Again, click HERE for more info.

If you cannot afford to support us financially, there are a couple of other ways that you can still help.

First, you can do you Amazon shopping through the Eclectablog page. Use the search box at the top of the right sidebar to start your shopping. You can search for products directly from that box or click the “View more products on” link to go to the main Amazon page. If you order via that link, we get 4-6% of the cost of your purchase and it doesn’t cost you a thing.

Second, please share our content on your Facebook page or other social media like Twitter, Reddit, etc. Put a “Like” on our Facebook page and click the “Invite friends” button and encourage your friends to like us, too.

Thanks so much for your support,
Amy, Chris, Anne, LOLGOP, Tony, Emma, and Charles
