EVENT: Betsy Coffia’s “no PAC money” campaign to hold Ann Arbor fundraiser while her GOP opponent buys Facebook “likes”

by

One of my favorite Democratic candidates in Michigan is Betsy Coffia from Traverse City in the 104th State House district. In addition to being a good friend, Betsy combines a straightforward populist message with a value system that perfectly aligns with mine and wraps it all up in a tornado of exuberant energy that is positively infectious.

During the last election cycle, Coffia won her primary taking no PAC, SuperPAC, or out of state money. She did the same in the General Election but was unable to prevail in what is a very red district. You can read my interview with Betsy from that time HERE.

This year, she’s back at it again and is maintaining her pledge to run her campaign strictly on individual donations. As of this morning, her website declares that she’s raised $55,534 from 582 donors and has 349 campaign volunteers working with her.

Betsy is making the trip to Ann Arbor to hold a fundraising event next week. I am proud to join a group of my friends to host this event and I am hoping you’ll join us. Here are the details:

Meanwhile, while Betsy is out running a legitimately grassroots, people-powered campaign, her Republican opponent Larry Inman has taken to a laughably ridiculous effort to make the cool kids think he’s popular by purchasing Facebook likes for his campaign Facebook page.

Check it out:

Whoa! See that big spike on Friday? The number of people Liking Inman’s Facebook page jumped from just a handful to 6,334, an incredible 25,236%!

But wait. Look at where most of his new Likers came from: Istanbul, Turkey. Apparently Larry Inman is incredibly popular with the 18-34-year old Turkish demographic. I guess they really go for those aging white conservative Republicans over there in Istanbul. Who knew?

Lameitude of this magnitude is really something to behold. It shows a level of desperation you don’t often see.

Then again, most people aren’t running against Betsy Coffia.
