Be a hero: Support MICHUHCAN’s health care advocacy at their annual dinner

by

Enjoy a great evening on June 20 to benefit a great organization.

MICHUHCAN has been championing health care justice in Michigan since long before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) became law. There’s still plenty of work to be done, and MICHUHCAN needs your support.

Michigan Universal Health Care Access Network (MICHUHCAN) is a state-wide network that promotes comprehensive health care for all. The organization also works to make Michigan healthier through education, strategy development and advocacy.

MICHUHCAN’s annual dinner on June 20 is its biggest fundraising event of the year. The event supports the organization’s efforts, which include a team of experts from medicine, law and community groups working as a consistent voice for justice in Michigan health policy to protect the rights of patients and health care consumers. MICHUHCAN also educates the public about how health care policy affects them and engages them to take action. Most important, MICHUHCAN works with diverse groups to foster a health care system that is universal, available regardless of ability to pay, comprehensive and cost-efficient. The goal is to make sure everyone can easily access quality care.

With the ACA and the Healthy Michigan Medicaid expansion program up and running, the 9th Annual Health Care Heroes Dinner is a celebration — and an opportunity to consider the challenges on the horizon. Wendell Potter is the keynote speaker on the topic “Insurance Companies & Other Barriers to Affordability.”

Potter is a former insurance company communications director who has dedicated his life to helping “socially responsible organizations — including those advocating for meaningful health care reform — achieve their goals,” according to his website. Potter has testified before Congress and is the author of Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR Is Killing Health Care and Deceiving Americans.

The dinner also features three heroes who will be honored for their work over the past year to advocate for improved health care quality and access. It’s a great opportunity to connect with the special guests and network with representatives of health care advocacy organizations from across Michigan.

The MICHUHCAN Health Care Heroes Dinner is June 20 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are just $40 each and $20 for students. Purchase your tickets online today!
