Arizona Republican state rep goes full Godwin, compares America under Obama to Germany under Hitler – twice

by

“Germany started with national health care and gun control before any of that other stuff happened”

Arizona Republican Brenda Barton posted on her Facebook page that “Someone is paying the National Park Service thugs overtime for their efforts to carry out the order of De Fuhrer.”

The post was still up on her page as of 6:30 p.m. today:

Sparking outrage, the story went national. Then during an interview with the Arizona Capital Times, she doubled down. I’m not kidding:

[I]n a telephone interview with the Arizona Capitol Times, Barton stood by the comments, saying the comparison between Obama and Hitler was apt, at least in their style of leadership.

“He’s dictating beyond his authority,” she said.

Barton said Obama is leading America down a slippery slope away from a constitutional democracy toward an imperial dictatorship and the people of America should be aware. She said murdering millions of Jews, gypsies and gays wasn’t the only thing that happened in Nazi Germany, and America under Obama is looking a lot like the early days of Germany under Hitler.

“It’s not just the death camps. (Hitler) started in the communities, with national health care and gun control. You better read your history. Germany started with national health care and gun control before any of that other stuff happened. And Hitler was elected by a majority of people,” she said.

You know how it is: one minute you’re trying to get assault rifles off the streets where they are murdering our children and you’re providing affordable health insurance to working Americans and the next minute you’re exterminating 4 million innocent people.

I guess it’s nice to know that not all of the Republican insanity is just in Michigan. I surely hope hope the Jewish community speaks out about this completely offensive diminishing of their horrific past.

Aye, aye, aye…
