Washington Post moves Michigan to #5 on list of governships mostly likely to change parties

Nana nah nah, nana nah nah, hey hey hey, good-bye…

The Washington Post‘s The Fix blog is keeping track of the governor races across the country and maintains a list of the top 15 most likely to change parties. The last time they ranked the states, Michigan was at number six. Today, we’ve cracked the top five.

All of which is Very Bad News for our illustrious governor, one of the least popular in the country. Recent revelations about his NERD slush fund and skirting the law in the hiring of Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr aren’t going to help. Neither is the fact that two years after he came to office, 10% of Michigan schools are in the red and facing financial crises.

These facts should energize Michigan Democrats and motivate them to do everything they can to elect Democrats up and down the ticket in 2014. I know am and I hope you are as well.

Here’s what The Fix blog had to say:

5. Michigan (R): A poll from Democratic automated pollster Public Policy Polling earlier this month showed former congressman Mark Schauer (D) at 42 percent and Gov. Rick Snyder (R) at 38 percent. But more telling is that Snyder continues to be underwater in his personal approval. The fact is that Schauer’s lead is small because he’s largely unknown, and in a blue state, Snyder needs to recover his good name to win reelection. (Previous ranking: 6)

Given the current news cycle and the way PPP’s polling has been tracking over the past six months, I’m going to hazard a guess that there will be precious little recovery of whatever “good name” Rick Snyder ever had. Two of his biggest supporters from 2010 in his home town of Ann Arbor, Matt and Rene Greff, owners of the Arbor Brewing Company and the Corner Brewery, will be holding a fundraiser for Mark Schauer next month on July 13th.

That, right there, tells you all you need to know about Rick Snyder’s portrayal of himself as a “moderate”. In short: nobody’s buying that bogus line any longer.

Sayonara, Governor.
