Tony Trupiano is BACK, Jack!

A progressive gift to Michigan returns to the airwaves

I have been woefully remiss in not writing about the disappearance of our beloved progressive voice of the Michigan radiosphere, Tony Trupiano (probably because it was too painful to contemplate.) Right before the holidays, the radio station that he was on was closed by Clear Channel and with it went Tony’s show, First Shift with Tony Trupiano. Though it wasn’t a political move by all accounts, it was a huge loss to Michigan progressives.

Thankfully, after some hard work and what I can only imagine was a great deal of anxiety and heartburn, Tony has landed an evening show on 1130 AM WDFN. The show, called “Night Shift”, will stream via iHeart radio from 7-8 p.m. and then be on “regular” radio as well from 8-10 p.m. You can read Tony’s piece on this HERE.

Here’s my favorite bit, referring to his keen desire to hold Governor Snyder’s feet to the fire:

After watching the Governor’s State of the State address I believe many of us were dumbfounded by the “awe shucks” approach and tone that he took during his terribly delivered remarks in his refusal to take ownership of the way he has destroyed the fabric of our society here in Michigan is reprehensible it best, sinful in many ways, and the total disconnect from reality at least from where I’m sitting and I know I’m not sitting alone. Rick Snyder is a curse on my sensibilities and I cannot sit any longer and allow his rhetoric, his displaced “restlessly positive” bullshit, hang in the air like a stale fart the morning after a frat party without making him own the hazards he has created purposefully, for the benefit of his cronies and the billionaire boys club he is a servant to. He is BAD news any way you look at it.

That’s pure prose, kids, and gives you a perfect taste of why Tony is such a treasure to so many of us.

Here’s the best news of all:

There are plans in the works to syndicate the show statewide in key markets in the state of Michigan. That is why the show will start at 7 PM for the markets that are currently looking at taking the show live in its entirety on their stations. Because of previous commitments with the 7-8 PM timeslot on WDFN that hour was not available and the best solution was to stream the show live in that first hour for those that want to hear it and it will also be available via podcast as will the entire show.

The good news is that Christine Barry from Blogging for Michigan and I will continue our “Blog Role” segment, alternating weeks as we did before. It will be interesting to be doing it at night instead of in the morning. It will give me a chance to drive over to Tony’s studio to do it live from time to time, something I’m really looking forward to. Blog Role will be on Thursday nights from 9:30 to 10:00 p.m. which means that we’ll be on TONIGHT! In fact, Christine and I will be on together tonight to re-launch the segment. I hope you’ll join us.

You can listen to “Night Shift” on 1130 AM in southeastern Michigan, live via Tony’s website or via the iHeart app on your favorite mobile device or tablet. Of course you should follow Tony on Twitter and put a LIKE on his Facebook page, as well.

See you on the radio.
