“Small government” Michigan GOP passed so many bills, Lt. Gov. has to take up slack signing them

by

Small government, my butt

As I wrote last week, the hypocritical “small government” Republicans passed 282 bills during the short inflamed duck session. So many, in fact, that when Governor Snyder took a holiday break outside of the state, Lt. Governor Brian Calley was enlisted to sign 50 of them:

People who fail to report a dead body to authorities could be criminally charged under a bill signed into law Wednesday.

The bill was among 50 bills signed by Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, who was acting on behalf of Gov. Rick Snyder, who was out of state “enjoying family time,” according to spokesman Kurt Weise.

It’s not that they were all bad bills. They weren’t. It’s the rank hypocrisy of Republicans who swept into power in 2010 with the “small government, less regulation” mantra on their hypocritical lips that’s so galling.

As long as you’re a business, you can thank them for less regulation. But, if you’re a woman or a union member or the member of some group Republicans dislike, you can count on much more regulation.

Because that, my friends, is how they roll.
