Day 3 – First quarter fundraising drive

Wait, you don’t get paid for this?

The tip jar was pretty quiet yesterday but I am very thankful to those of you that have contributed so far.

It surprises people that I don’t get much income from my blogging. As I was walking up to the Capitol building last week with my wife Anne C. Savage and co-blogger at Blogging for Michigan, Christine Barry, we ran into the reporting crew from AnnArbor.com. Reporter Ryan Stanton asked me, in essence, how much of my income comes from my blog. He was surprised to learn that it’s almost nothing.

Another thing I hear a lot is “I don’t know how you do it” and “Where do you find time to put up 4, 5, 6 posts a day?” and “I don’t know when you sleep”.

Obviously this is a labor of love for me. One day I do hope it can pay my bills and I can do it full time. Until then, I will keep doing what I am doing and part of that is that I’ve decided not to run annoying third party ads. This means you won’t have to see obnoxious flashing gifs or scantily-clad girls on my sidebar or across the top of my site. If I run ads they will be for progressive causes or for local businesses that support progressive writing.

If you’d like to support the work I do, you can do so using the PayPal link below (for a secure, safe internet transaction using a credit card.) If you’d rather send a check, email me for details.

Another option is to run an ad on Eclectablog. If you are part of a progressive group or a business looking for exposure to a progressive audience, ads start at $65 only per month. The Dan del Zoppo ad was a gift from Dan’s son. Maybe you and some of your friends want to pool your donations and take out a banner ad for your favorite group or organization. It doesn’t have to be an ad, either. Put up a favorite quote or saying. Use your imagination.

If you are interested in running an ad, use the email link under my logo to request more information about advertising on Eclectablog.

Once again, thank you so much for your continued support.

Because you took the time to read this, have a couple of videos from one of my favorite bands, Sonia Dada:
