John Kyl: If you’re a Senator, it’s okay to lie to make your point

by

Senator John Kyl is a liar. This has now been established.

Last Friday he said this on the Senate floor:

“Everybody goes to clinics, to hospitals, to doctors, and so on. Some people go to Planned Parenthood. But you don’t have to go to Planned Parenthood to get your cholesterol or your blood pressure checked. If you want an abortion, you go to Planned Parenthood, and that’s well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.

Sounds great conservatives, I’m sure. Problem is that it’s a complete lie. Abortions account for only about 3% of what Planned Parenthood does.

When Kyl got called on his blatant lying, his staff issued the following statement:

[The senator’s remark] was not intended to be a factual statement but rather to illustrate that Planned Parenthood, an organization that receives millions in taxpayer dollars, does subsidize abortions.

Not intended to be a factual statement. Or, in other words, was a lie. On the floor of the Senate. Used to justify defunding a HUGE provider of women’s health services in this country. A lie.

Stephen Colbert has been going crazy on this, creating a Twitter hashtag “#NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement”. Here are some of his tweets:

Jon Kyl destroyed love in 1973. All feelings since then have been but a shadow of the original concept. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

John Kyl is 90% prune juice. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

John Kyl bought a SodaStream so he could drink “carbonated” tears of the poor. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

John Kyl is the only person who can sneeze with is penis. he calls it a “sneenis”. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

And, of course, LOTS of people have chimed in. Check them out HERE. Too funny. Serves that lying sack of manure right.

I’m just sayin’…
