Honestly, I’m just boggled by this. The Tea Party of Ann Arbor is holding a Tax Day rally on Thursday, April 15th on the University of Michigan Diag. Seriously. Right here in the heart of Michigan liberalism! I just don’t get it. Do they honestly think they aren’t going to be completely swarmed by a ton of Ann Arbor liberals, both students and aging hippies and everything in between? We outnumbered them five-to-one in Jackson, a very blue collar town. How bad do you think it’s going to be on campus?
Here’s the description from their Facebook page:
Come join with a cross section of society as we rally against bigger government and out-of-control spending. Our elected representatives seem to have forgotten that they work for us. They are ignoring their constituents and forging ahead taxing and spending us into oblivion.
They keep saying that the current state of health care in American is “unsustainable”. Instead, we believe the current rate of spending and growth in government is unsustainable.
We want to see a return to the principles our founding fathers fought for; a limited government that lives within its means, and allows its people LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT of HAPPINESS!
Okay, first of all, let’s quit pretending the teabaggers represent some “cross section of society”. They are MOSTLY white people. MOSTLY older people. MOSTLY Republicans or Libertarians. There are precious few minorities. There are nearly no Democrats or liberals of any kind.
And I am sick to death of this meme that their elected officials aren’t listening to their constituents.
Teabaggers, please. Listen to me. No, come closer. Pay attention. I’m going to make this very easy for you to understand:
There are more of US than there are of YOU. Period.
We won the election. We elected Barack Obama president and many other Democrats are in office because we put them there. And we put them there because we wanted them to reform the health insurance industry and to fix our ailing economy and to deal with global climate change and to protect the environment and to push forward with a new clean energy economy and to regulate the financial segment of our economy. All of these things you hate so very much WE put them in office to do.
Because there are more of US than there are of YOU.
You lost the election. They aren’t ignoring you, they are listening to the majority: US.
We always do.
Here are the details on the counter-rally:
