Pure, Unadulterated Politics – NOW?

by

You do have to admit, if our financial systems weren’t in complete meltdown, THIS would be funny as fuck:

The Republican National Committee’s new advertisement critical of the the Wall Street “bailout” was produced and sent to television stations in key states before the package failed, officials at two stations said.

“Wall Street Squanders our money. And Washington is forced to bail them out with — you guessed it — our money. Can it get any worse?” asks the ad’s narrator, as the words “BAILOUT WITH OUR MONEY” cross the screen. (The answer: Obama’s plans would make it worse.)

The ad, however, seems to assume that it can safely attack a successful plan. And the reason may be the timing: Though it started airing this morning, the spot was released to stations yesterday morning, ad executives at stations in Michigan and Pennsylvania said.

Kae Buck of WLNS in Lansing said her station received the at at 7:55 a.m. Monday. Luanne Russell of Pittsburgh’s WTAE said her station received it at 10:49 Monday morning.

Did you get that? The Republicans not only made an ad slamming the Democrats for passing this bill, they sent it out to television stations BEFORE it actually FAILED!!!

That’s absolutely hiLARious!

Except that, all the while, the head of their retarded, cynical, too-politically-smart-by-half party (that would be John McCain) is out there promoting the bill (“let’s call it a ‘rescue’, not a ‘bailout’) and calling for bipartisanship. Okay, to be fair, he’s also uttering some nasty partisan shit of his own. Like this little gem:

Senator Obama and his allies in Congress infused unnecessary partisanship into the process. Now is not the time to affix the blame. It’s time to fix the problem.

Say wuh? “I blame the Democrats. Now is not the time for blame”??? Are you kidding me!?

But he was actually pushing the bill and taking credit for its success all the while. While they were cutting the damn ad!

So, anyway, here’s a list of things that went on yesterday in the busy world of Republican politics where it’s far more important to make the Democrats look bad in an effort to get their sinking ship of a campaign back on the right side of the ocean surface than it is to sit down in good faith and figure out how to bail our country out of this mess before the whole goddam world economy gets sucked into a financial blackhole:

  • Boehner, the House Minority Douchebag went around pretending to shore up votes for a bipartisan passing of this bill.
  • Newt Gingrich went around behind Boehner’s back, shoring up votes against a bipartisan passing of this bill.
  • John McCain went around claiming full credit for finally getting everyone together to get this mutha figgerd out (even though negotiations pretty much fell apart once he got his old man ass to Warshington, D.C.
  • Somewhere, in a studio, someone was cutting an ad to slam the Democrats for handing over $700 billion of our tax money to greedy corporate slimeballs (conveniently ignoring the fact that they’re probably mostly Republicans and positively HATE that they’re being held responsible for this.)
  • That was all going on at the same time.

If you wanna elect these bozos into office you gotta be insane. Absolutely, positively, certifiably insane. They couldn’t possibly be farther from putting “Country First” (retch). And it’s hurting America.

    I’m just rantin’…
