Paul Scott is officially FIRED by the citizens of Michigan

And so it is done.

An election board Friday certified results from a recall election that removes a Republican state lawmaker from office.

Rep. Paul Scott of Grand Blanc was removed from the Legislature by 233 votes out of more than 24,000 ballots cast in a Nov. 8 election. The Board of State Canvassers certified the results in a meeting at the state Capitol.

Republicans say they won’t challenge the outcome and instead will focus on the special election to replace Scott, scheduled for Feb. 28.

Good riddance, Mr. Scott.

By the way, Scott was removed by a slender 233 vote margin.…

The little GOP recall that could – recalling anti-teacher, anti-union Rep. Paul Scott

In what can only be called a nail-biter last night (see my liveblog HERE to see what I mean), the effort to recall anti-teacher, anti-union Republican Rep. Paul Scott from Grand Blanc was successful last night. After all of the votes were counted, Scott was recalled by a margin of only 197 votes – 50.4% to 49.6%. This is, however, quite a different result than the final poll before the election that had Scott winning by 8 percentage points.

Over the course of this campaign, the recall organizers displayed a nearly-Herculean level of determination. Recall language approval happened very late in the game.…

I’m traveling for work this week so it’s been light blogging. I thought you might enjoy this link, however:

Answer: with over 800 votes cast, an overwhelming number say “YES!”. 78+% in fact.

Michigan Supreme Ct. to GOP Rep. Paul Scott: “Strike three, you’re out!” Recall is STILL on!

After going to the Michigan Supreme Court well for a third time, GOP Representative Paul Scott has been smacked down a third and final time. The Supreme Court ruled today that Paul Scott’s recall WILL go forward.

The Michigan Supreme Court says it will not stop or postpone a recall election targeting a state lawmaker. Today’s decision clears the way for the November 8 vote.

Republican Paul Scott (R-Grand Blanc) has spent much of the past month trying to convince the courts to stop next month’s recall election.

With less than 2 weeks to go before the November 8 vote, the Michigan Supreme Court appears to have had the final word on Scott’s request and that word is ‘no’.

Gov. Snyder & Att. Gen. Schuette involvement in Paul Scott recall is “clumsy and nakedly partisan”

As if it weren’t a big enough travesty that Rep. Paul Scott is asking the state Supreme Court to reconsider their ruling that his recall go on. Now Governor Rick Snyder & Attorney General Bill Schuette are sticking their noses into the matter.

Gov. Rick Snyder and Attorney General Bill Schuette filed requests with the Michigan Supreme Court today, asking the court to delay the Nov. 8 recall election targeting state Rep. Paul Scott, R-Grand Blanc.

In documents filed with the court, Snyder and Schuette said the legal tangle surrounding the case – which has been ordered on, off and back on the ballot over the course of the last two months – has left voters confused and in danger of being disenfranchised.

The convoluted history of the recall of Michigan Rep. Paul Scott

Cross-posted at Wisconsin’s Dane101 blog.

State Representative Paul Scott was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives for the 51st District in 2008. He won reelection in 2010 and, since then, has been at the forefront of attacking unions in general and the teachers union specifically.

Scott didn’t run on an anti-teacher platform during his campaign. In fact, many have been surprised at his aggressiveness on the issue. His campaign focused on the Republican mantra of lower taxes and smaller government. However, as the Chair of the Education Committee, he has been unrelenting in his efforts to strip the teachers’ union, the Michigan Education Association, of its power and to kneecap teachers’ collective bargaining rights.…
