Stupidity Alert: Nolan Finley is outraged that President Obama invites musicians to the White House

Faux poutrage is SO unbecoming…

Detroit News editorial page editor Nolan Finley is outraged that President Obama has the audacity to invite musicians to the White House. Though he was silent when previous presidents did this, it was enough to prompt a stupiditorial column in the paper this week.

More on this utter stupidity after the jump.

Michigan’s Emergency Manager meetings not subject to Open Meetings Act, opponent faces federal indictments

Things are NOT getting better

Today, the State Court of Appeals ruled that the review teams that recommended Emergency Managers for Detroit and Flint were not subject to the Open Meetings Act. The court ruled that they are not a “governing body” so they are exempt from the requirement.

Nolan Finley is shocked – SHOCKED! – that union members support President Obama

It’s just SHOCKING!

Nolan Finley, editorial page editor of The Detroit News is positively astonished that the UAW and other unions will be supporting President Obama’s reelection campaign.

Now we know how United Auto Workers President Bob King will repay Barack Obama for holding the union harmless from the Detroit automakers’ bankruptcy: He’ll provide the ground troops for the president’s class war.

The Daily Caller blog says it found evidence that King and the UAW are behind the “99 Percent Spring,” which aims to train and deploy 100,000 Americans for “non-violent direct action” in the months leading up to November’s presidential election.

The Republican hypocrisy in Michigan’s charter school debate – UPDATED

A couple of weeks ago, I spent about 20 quality minutes in the Green Room of Fox News Detroit with Nolan Finley, the Editorial Page Editor of the Detroit News. In that short time, I got to listen to him debate charter schools with another guest. His main and emphatic argument, one echoed by most charter school proponents, is that charter schools are necessary because they force the public schools to compete and, in the process, become better.

This is a seductive argument and I can understand why it appeals to conservatives and maybe even some non-conservatives. The capitalistic model is a strong part of our American culture.…

Detroit News’ Nolan Finley: You can’t even watch a little soft-core porn without an Obama commercial

Detroit News’ blatherer Nolan Finley outdid his normal degree of insipidity today with an editorial piece titled “Hollywood ramps up to help Obama”.

I was watching an episode of “Hung,” the filmed-in-Detroit HBO series about a guy with a super big — well, the story line isn’t important — when all of a sudden an Obama campaign commercial broke out.

Tanya, the hapless female pimp, was telling Ray, the teacher turned prostitute, he’s like “poor people who say they’re Republican and vote against their own self interest.” [...]

It’s a sorry state when you can’t even watch a little soft porn on the cable without getting your brain washed.

Nolan Finley trots out debunked myth that “The 1% does most of the giving”

Nolan Finley at the Detroit News just can’t seem to bash the Occupy Wall Street folks enough. First, it was his article where he basically called the protesters a bunch of animals and derided them as being simply “malcontents”.

This week, he trots out a debunked-many-times-over myth that “the 1% does most of the giving”.

The civil rights center bearing the name of Detroit’s Judge Damon Keith was dedicated last week at the Wayne State University Law School. Its mission is to protect the legal rights of the nation’s most disaffected and powerless citizens, continuing the work to which Keith has dedicated his life.…

Detroit News editorial: Occupy Detroit protesters are a “menagerie of malcontents”

Nolan Finley, the editorial page editor for the Detroit News, is never a person I would expect to understand what it means to be unemployed, losing your home, or otherwise a victim of the banking collapse that resulted in the economic tar pit we find ourselves in today. He has proven, time and again, that he’s an staunch ally of the moneyed elites that have all the power, political and financial, in our country and has little positive to say about the remaining 99% of us.

But today’s editorial in The News is above and beyond Finley’s normal level of dispassion and callous disregard for the plight of the poor and unemployed in our state and country.…
