Day 4: Fourth Quarter fundraiser – Conservative groups fund bloggers. Liberal groups? Not so much.

by

Please feed the bloggers

One thing that I’ve learned over the years is that conservative blogosphere is a pretty lucrative gig if you have even a modicum of talent. Corporatist groups actually pay people to go online not only to blog but to do all sorts of nefarious things like downvoting liberal posts and comments on sites like Reddit, give liberal-slanted books bad reviews on Amazon, and, in general, filling the internet’s airwaves with noise and chaff to dampen progressive voices. You can actually make money doing this.

The progressive blogosphere, simply put, does not do this. That’s no surprise of course — we’re not nearly that unethical. However, it also means that it’s very, very hard to find ways to get paid as a liberal freelance writer, no matter how good you are.

One thing I felt was essential when I set out to build this website was that I was going to pay regular contributors. I’m not a wealthy dude so I can’t fund this out of my paltry bank account. The best I can do is to share the proceeds with the folks who contribute the high-quality writing you see here every day.

We get a small amount of income from the ads you see but, frankly, you’d be shocked by how little they bring in. So the income we make and share comes largely from these fundraisers. We hate asking you for money but, so far, there simply aren’t many other options.

I’d love to say that we’re killing it this time around and that our consistent and persistent quality content has inspired large numbers of you to contribute. Unfortunately, that has not been the case for this quarter’s fundraiser. So, I’m hoping that you will take a moment to consider what this site is worth to you and make a donation that fits your budget.

I’d like to think the progressive community will support folks like us who are an important part of making sure the progressive voice is heard and not drowned out by the paid-to-shill, corporatist-funded conservative bloggers.

If you’d like to be part of that, there are three ways you can do that:

First, you can make your donation using the PayPal link below. You can change the amount if you wish.

[donateplus]

Or you can wait until the TinyPass pop-up pops up (every tenth click on the site) and donate that way. If you do that, the popups will go away as long as you have cookies enabled. Again, the default amounts for annual or monthly donations can be adjusted to whatever you wish them to be.

Finally, if you would prefer to send a check, send me an email and I’ll give you the address.

If you cannot afford to support us financially, you can still help. Please share our content on your Facebook page or other social media like Twitter, Reddit, etc. Put a “Like” on our Facebook page and click the “Invite friends” button and encourage your friends to like us, too.

Thanks so much,
Chris, Anne, LOLGOP, and Amy
