Constituents give Rep. Kerry Bentivolio a lump of coal for Christmas in August

by

Congressman Kerry Bentivolio hasn’t held a single public town hall during August recess. So constituents held one for him.

Representative Kerry Bentivolio of Michigan’s 11th Congressional District may be proud of playing Santa every year, but to his constituents, he’s more like the Grinch.

He doesn’t listen to constituents except those who support his extremist views. He hasn’t acted in the best interests of his constituents — instead going on witch hunts about Benghazi and the IRS, and grasping at straws in a desperate attempt to impeach President Obama.

So constituents hosted their own town hall led by the Grinch, where they could voice concerns about Rep. Bentivolio’s ideological agenda.

A lively group was on hand to give “Grinch Bentivolio” a stern talking to. They created a “Naughty and Nice” list, with the nice list being the actions they wish Rep. Bentivolio would take. The naughty list, of what Rep. Bentivolio has done in Congress to date, was a long one, says Jill Farber-Bramson of West Bloomfield Township, who was one of the attendees who directed comments and questions to Grinch Bentivolio.

Constituents wanted to know how he could cut taxes for millionaires while raising Medicare costs to senior citizens. One gentleman expressed his outrage about Rep. Bentivolio wanting to shut down the government, crashing the economy. Rep. Bentivolio would put service members’ pay in jeopardy just to wage ideological fights. Many were outraged because he wants to make impeaching President Obama a priority. He has signed pledges to powerful Washington lobbyists like Grover Norquist instead of pledging to fight for Michigan’s middle class and working poor. I asked when he was going to stop waging the Republican War on Women, and castigated him for voting against the Violence Against Women Act and seeking to defund Planned Parenthood.

According to Farber-Bramson, the town hall was animated, serious and sometimes moving — even sobering at times. Constituents don’t feel Rep. Bentivolio represents their interests, and have been holding accountability events throughout the Congressional recess to make that point.

From voting for the Republican Budget that favors the wealthy over the middle class to actively seeking an excuse to impeach President Obama, Rep. Bentivolio is proving he’s much more like the Grinch than he is like Santa.

Joshua Pugh, Communications Director for the Michigan Democratic Party, had this to say:

Congressman Bentivolio’s latest comments about the President are just another sign he’s not fit to serve. That’s why Michiganders are holding Bentivolio accountable, not only for his wrong priorities leading to an obsession with impeaching the President, but for his support for partisan budget plans that put millionaires ahead of the middle class.

The Michigan Democratic Party released a new video this week, “Kerry Bentivolio Deserves a Lump of Coal for Wrong Priorities.” It’s spot-on, hilarious and not to be missed.
