Private prisons are like money machines for their owners and their republican lawmakers friend. They take their inmates back to slavery, helped ably by the dishonest judges who sentence young Black and Latino men and women to years of imprisonment for minor infractions like driving with only one tail light working, or expired insurance etc. Of course these judges receive their kickbacks. These are the same people who are critical of the amount of spending in Washington but have no qualms of receiving taxpayer funded payments under false pretense and overbilling the government. They have no qualms about using the inmates as slaves instead of hiring people from the community outside. There should be no private prisons. republicans wish to privatize just about EVERY agency but it only leads to a rip off from the government.
