The Eclectateam heads to Democratic National Convention in Charlotte

Forward (and south)

Anne and I are heading out this morning for the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina I am an alternate delegate for the Michigan caucus and we are both credentialed media for Eclectablog.

The list of speakers is impressive. Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren, Jimmy Carter (via video) and Bill Clinton are the ones I’m most excited about.

On Wednesday, I have been invited to a roundtable discussion with Governor Howard Dean and American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten with 10-12 other…

Democratic Party set to place marriage equality for LGBT couples in the party platform

Democratic Party set to place marriage equality for LGBT couples in the party platform

Welcome to the real world

It’s a big day for LGBT rights in America today. First, a new Pew poll shows that a plurality of Americans support the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Then, on the same day, we learn that the Democratic Party are set to place support for same-sex marriage in the party’s 2012 platform.

Lots to cheer about after the jump.

Attention Michigan Democrats: I need your help smoking out fake Dems!

Attention Michigan Democrats: I need your help smoking out fake Dems!

Help a bloggah out?

It has come to my attention that there are a number of Republicans running as fake Democrats across the state. I’m not talking about conservadems or Blue Dog Democrats, conservative Democrats that are “Democrats in Name Only” (DINOs.) I’m talking about dyed-in-the-wool Republicans pretending to be Democrats.

I already have identified a small handful but I need your help finding the rest. I want to publish this piece no later than Wednesday so time is of the essence. I need proof that these people are, in fact, Republicans. It could be information from their website, emails they’ve sent, Facebook page screenshots. Whatever you have, I’m asking you to send it along.

This post is going to be a bit of a reverse-voters guide; an attempt to identify as many of these liars as possible and expose them for who they are so that people don’t accidentally vote for them, particularly in next week’s primary.

So, if you know of a fake Dem in Michigan, I’d like to hear from you. You can contact me by clicking HERE.

Thanks.

– Chris

“Get on the Bus” with University of Michigan regent candidate Mark Bernstein

“Get on the Bus” with University of Michigan regent candidate Mark Bernstein

Get on the Bus!

In March of this year, Mark Bernstein, candidate for regent of the University of Michigan, was endorsed by the Michigan Democratic Party at their 2012 Endorsement Convention. I have met and talked at length with Mark and I’m thrilled that he’s our candidate this year. He’s a solid progressive with a big heart and a strong interest in helping keep college costs down for Michigan students.

Mark’s team recently purchased a 20-year old school bus from the South Redford Public School District, painted it up with his campaign logo & graphics and set out on a statewide “Make College Affordable Tour”. After the jump is a video his team put together about the process and about Mark’s tour, an Eclectablog exclusive!

I Love America

I Love America

Or, Why I Vote Democrat We didn’t have graphic novels when old ass LOLGOP was growing up. You could get a super-sized Archie or a book of Peanuts. But they didn’t have anything good like that in Germain Street School’s library. It was mostly encyclopedias, novelas about horses and picture books. What they did have was a small display shelf […]

Why President Obama’s support of marriage equality is a BFD

Why President Obama’s support of marriage equality is a BFD

Nobody puts Barack in a corner Yesterday I wrote that the issue of same-sex marriage was coming to a crisis for the President, even though he’s running against an opponent who could not be worse on gay marriage — unless he were literally Rick Santorum. Mitt Romney has called himself “one of the nation’s leading advocates of traditional marriage” and […]

A legitimate Democrat finally announces for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District — Ruben Marquez

A legitimate Democrat finally announces for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District — Ruben Marquez

Hallelujah!

As I wrote last Thursday, Republican Joe Schwarz, who was being wooed by the Democratic Party to run in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District on their behalf, decided last week NOT to run. This left only Kurt Haskell as the only candidate on the Democratic side and he is “a conspiracy theorist who worries about ‘government overreach’, talks about cutting taxes in the middle of a recession and isn’t a proponent an essential part of the Affordable Care Act.”

Well, on Friday, those of us Democrats in MI-07 got some very good news…

Democracy Day in Michigan: MAY 5th! (Caucuses and Snyder recall kick-off)

Democracy Day in Michigan: MAY 5th! (Caucuses and Snyder recall kick-off)

Democracy: use it or lose it

In a perfect confluence of democratic goings-on, I hereby dub May 5th, 2012 Democracy Day in Michigan. Two key events are happening that day. First, from 9 a.m. until noon, Democrats across the state will caucus to choose Barack Obama as their candidate for President of the United States.

Then, starting at 2 p.m., there will be a rally on the grounds of the State Capitol to kick-off the second attempt to gather enough signatures to put the recall on Governor Rick Snyder on the November ballot. If you can’t make it to the rally, it will be live-streamed here at Eclectablog.

[Details about both events after the jump.]

Are you ready for some caucus? Then get your caucus on! This Saturday, from 9 a.m. until noon, Michigan Democrats will hold caucuses around the state to choose Barack Obama as the Democratic candidate for president in 2012. While this may seem like a formality, there’s a bit more to it than that so you should plan to attend the […]

When you’re a foot soldier in the War on Women, even dirt clods & spit balls look like ammunition

A tale of an Obama surrogate who isn’t This is the Week of the Woman™ for the Romney campaign and Mitt is going whole hog trying to prove that it is he, not President Obama, who is the pro-woman candidate (maybe I should pause while you stop laughing.) His chief advisor in this effort is, apparently, his wife Ann, pictured […]
