In the midst of turmoil, EAA Board cancels February meeting, hasn’t met since early December

by

Something more important going on than revelations that your district is failing Detroit students?

Given the turmoil that has rocked the Education Achievement Authority since teachers have begun speaking out about the outrageous teaching conditions and learning environment in EAA schools, you would think the district’s Executive Board and Board of Directors would have plenty of business to attend to and plenty to discuss. You might even think that Gov. Snyder might be demanding some answers as to why his “school district for misfit schools” has been shown to be such a colossal embarrassment.

Apparently that’s not the case. The last time the Board of Directors and the Executive Board met was December 4, 2013. There was no January meeting and now we learn that they have cancelled the February Executive Committee meeting (pdf). The meeting has been rescheduled as a joint Board and Executive Committee meeting in March (pdf). However, no location has been given. Wouldn’t want people interested in speaking to them about the conditions that have come to light to be able to plan ahead, I suppose.

The lack of leadership in the EAA manifests itself in a lot of ways on a daily basis. Now we have confirmation that this leadership vacuum goes all the way to the top.

No interview today. I have three more to transcribe and a couple yet to schedule. The transcription process takes considerable time and I appreciate your patience.

REMINDER:If you are in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti/Washtenaw County area, don’t forget that tomorrow there will be a forum on the EAA at Pioneer High School starting at 7:30 p.m.. I will be a speaker/panelist along with Prof. Thomas Pedroni from Wayne State University, Professor Christopher Robbins from Eastern Michigan University, Representatives Gretchen Driskell and Jeff Irwin, and others. More details can be found HERE.
