Drunk with power, Michigan Republican men continue to show themselves for the pigs they are

They just can’t help themselves

Just one day after thousands gathered at the Michigan state Capitol to decry the denigration and diminishing of women in the legislature, Republicans continue to show themselves for the utter pigs that they are. This time, it’s State Rep. Wayne Schmidt from Traverse City on Michael Patrick Shiels’ radio show who continued their blatant war on women.

Speaking about House Speaker Jase Bolger’s decision to ban Democrats Barb Byrum and Lisa Brown from speaking on the House floor after daring to utter the words “vagina” and “vasectomy”, Schmidt said, they were being given a time out like you would for a “kid”.

Schmidt: “It’s like giving a kid a time out for a day. Hey, ‘Time out…’”

Shiels: “Time outs, temper tantrums — makes women angry, hah hah hah…”

Oh, hah hah hah. So funny. So insulting. So piggish.

The Republican men in the Michigan legislature are drunk with power. They are so drunk with that power that they believe they can say anything, do anything, and be as disrespectful to their women colleagues as they want. They can call them “whores”. They can call them “cunts”. And they can refer to them as children who need to be punished.

Zack Pohl, Executive Director of Progress Michigan put it this way:

Rep. Schmidt is the one who should be put in timeout by Speaker Bolger for his offensive remarks about female legislators. It’s time for Lansing Republicans to stop these shameful attacks on women and start doing the jobs they were elected to do.

I don’t care if you are Democrat, Republican, Independent or uncaring about politics — if you care about respecting women in this state, particularly respecting elected women officials, you should be personally offended by these pigs.

And you should replace them in November.
