Wisconsin Senator introduced bill classifying single parenting as “child abuse”

You think the War on Women isn’t real or doesn’t affect you? Think again.

Wisconsin Republican Senator Glenn Grothman has completely gone off the rails in the GOP’s War On Women. Back in March, he introduced legislation that classifies single parents and other non-married couples as contributing to child abuse.

All the offensive and gory details after the jump.

Terrorist strikes Planned Parenthood clinic in Wisconsin, detonates bomb

“Pro-Life” has different meanings for different people, apparently

A Planned Parenthood clinic in Grand Chute, Wisconsin was bombed last night. Fortunately, nobody was injured and the building sustained only minor damage from the resulting fire.

The bombing is under investigation by the FBI.

While presidential candidates like Mitt Romney say…

Wisconsin Solidarity Singers show solidarity with Michigan Snyder recall supporters

My friend Bruce Fealk, Michigan Rising Communications Director, got the ball rolling on this one:

Today, January 13, 2012, is the last day for signatures for the recall of Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin.

For 260 days, the Solidarity singers have been singing in the Rotunda and outside the Capitol in Madison, WI.

Today I asked Chris Reed, the leader of the Solidarity Singers, if he would do a special version of We Shall Overcome for all of us in Michigan. He agreed. Wait for it. It’s at the end. It’s a beautiful thing.

It is a beautiful thing.

SOMEDAY SOON!

Billboard supporting Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s job creation in front of shuttered plant

This is from the terrific blog Defend Wisconsin

A photo of a billboard in Janesville, Wisconsin, featuring a smiling Scott Walker, was captured on camera and posted as a pic on Facebook. Besides a smiling Scott Walker, the billboard states in Walker-campaign font: Scott Walker Creating Jobs for Wisconsin. Below, the billboard asks the readers to call Governor Walker and thank him. The advertisement is paid for by the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce association, long known in Wisconsin as a powerful arm of the Republican party.

Turns out that the pro-Walker billboard sits in front of a Janesville, Wisconsin GM plant that was closed in 2008.…

Wisconsin’s example needs to be taken to heart by Michigan activists

Last night’s election results in Wisconsin should serve as a highly motivating and energizing event for Democratic organizers and activists in Michigan. Although they did not succeed in flipping the Wisconsin Senate to blue, they did make shift the balance by four and, with several more moderate Republicans on board, this could dramatically influence any future legislative initiatives in their legislature. As kos put it this morning:

But let me just say, if tonight was a loss, I hope we have many more such “losses” in 2012.

We took the fight into red territory, and took two seats. What was a safe 19-14 GOP advantage is now a narrow 17-16.

Dems gather enough signatures to recall a 6th Republican, Republican recall efforts bomb

Oh, hardee har har har.

Yesterday, the group collecting signatures to recall Wisconsin Senator Robert Cowles announced they have enough signatures to put his recall on the ballot. That makes the sixth such announcement since the wave of recall campaigns began. Six down, two to go.

Meanwhile, Republican efforts to recall two three Democrats crapped out.

A recall effort targeting two Democratic state senators has fallen short at the deadline.

Organizers had until Monday afternoon to turn in petitions to recall Sen. Lena Taylor of Milwaukee and Sen. Fred Risser of Madison. But the organizers failed to meet the deadline.

For tea party Republicans, it’s business as usual — and then some

Nepotism is so offensive that, when you see it, your first instinct is to want to shake someone by the lapels, shake them silly, then throw them out into the street.

In this case, it would be Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker lying in the dirt and dust in the road in front of the saloon.

It’s good to be born to people who know people.

That’s largely the perception many Wisconinites are taking away from this weekend’s revelation that the son of a major political donor to Republican Governor Scott Walker landed a very well-heeled post in the state’s Department of Commerce with apparent ease.

Indiana prosecutor advised Scott Walker to stage an assault on himself

To fully tell this story, you have to go back to the beginning of the protest rallies in Madison, Wisconsin.

On February 17th, Governor Walker told the press that his office had received “over 8,000 emails” which he said were mostly supportive of his efforts to smash the unions.

“The more than 8,000 emails we got today, the majority are telling us to stay firm, to stay strong, to stand with the taxpayers,” Walker said of the emails. “While the protesters have every right to be heard, I’m going to make sure the taxpayers of the state are heard and their voices are not drowned out by those circling the Capitol.”

The very next day, he said the number was 19,000 and, still, with the “majority in favor” of his actions.…

Wisconsin State Senator Jauch eviscerates Governor Scott Walker

Wisconsin State Senator Bob Jauch issued a press release today. Jauch is one of the 14 Democrats who have left the state to deny Governor Scott Walker a quorum in the Senate which would allow him to strip away the collective bargaining rights of teachers and other public employees. Walker recently tried to portray Jauch as wanting to return to Wisconsin and revealed confidential conversations between Jauch and the Governor’s staff as evidence of this.

Jauch positively eviscerates Walker in his press release and emphatically denies that he is going to be returning to Wisconsin any time soon or that he is somehow giving up the fight that he and the other 13 Senators are waging on behalf of the union members.…

The police state at the Wisconsin Capitol continues, tea party rally a joke

As I wrote about last week, Wisconsin State Representative Nick Milroy was tackled when he tried to enter the Capitol Building on Thursday night. Here’s the video:

This police state environment at the Wisconsin Capitol continues this week. Talking Points Memo is reporting that the key cards of staff AND LEGISLATORS have been turned off, denying them direct entrance to the building. Now all staff must pass through what security checkpoints that closely resemble TSA security checkpoints at airports complete with metal detectors and hundreds of police officers who now literally occupy the Capitol building during work hours.

Milroy has described the situation as an “armed-palace environment” and said that Governor Walker has “basically turned the Capitol into a police state.”

Each legislative office is given eight passes to issue to constituents each day.…
