Former Tucson, Arizona mayoral candidate raising money to give away free shotguns in high-crime areas

Oh, for the love of Goddess…

If you don’t believe the headline of this post, I really don’t blame you. I myself was skeptical until I clicked the link to the Arizona Daily Star article and was forced to confront the unfortunate fact that there are actually people this stupid, this unbelievably moronic roaming the earth.

But there it was, in black and white: “Ex-Tucson mayoral hopeful McClusky plans free shotguns for high-crime areas”.

All the facepalming details after the jump.

Senator seeks to make sure barber poles aren’t used incorrectly (and, no, I’m not kidding)

Thank gods someone is protecting us from errant barber poles

I actually thought this was a joke when I read it this morning:

As the historic barber pole has become an increasingly popular symbol, one lawmaker wants to make sure its use isn’t being abused.

In Michigan and other states, lawmakers want to make sure the rotating red, white and blue pole is used only at businesses where the barbers have had the proper training and put in the number of hours required to get a license. [...]

The issue is important enough to state Sen. John Gleason that he has introduced legislation that makes it clear only licensed barber shops should have the right to display a barber pole.

Today’s Moment of Derp – “I don’t know how you regulate common, everyday things such as driving while impaired”

Ummm…what?

Former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox on legalizing marijuana:

Former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox admitted Friday he smoked pot when he was in high school during the 1970s. But during a symposium on the impact of marijuana reform, Cox stressed there are practical problems in legalizing marijuana, and that’s why he wouldn’t support changes some activists in Michigan are seeking.

“I am not for it mostly because I don’t know how you regulate common, everyday things such as driving while impaired,” said Cox, a Republican. “If it becomes legal, I don’t think I’ll ever use it again.

Michigan invaded by Super Mosquitoes – Gallinipper (Psorophora ciliate)

After a very wet spring followed by a very dry early summer, lower Michigan has been unseasonably wet for the past month. A couple of weeks ago we got 12 inches of rain in two days and then several more inches two days later. The result has been a massive spike in mosquito populations unlike anything I have ever seen.

But a new type of mosquito is being found in Washtenaw County where I live: the Gallinipper or Psorophora ciliata. These new mosquitoes can reach the size of a small wasp and their bite packs a wallop. They can even bite through canvas!…

GardenGate? Going to jail because of a vegetable garden? Only in Michigan…

THIS is unbelievable.

When Jason and Julie Bass had to rip up their front lawn to replace a pipe, they decided to rebuild it this spring with raised beds and filled them with vegetable plants.

Their front yard garden of cucumbers, tomatoes and peas has since landed the Oak Park couple a ticket, a court date and support from around the globe.

~SNIP~

The Basses are scheduled to be in court July 26 and face misdemeanor charges for ordinance violation. If found guilty, they could face up to 93 days in jail.

Here’s what the oh-so-offensive garden looks like:

Mich Supreme Court: Homeless sex offenders must still list a “home” or be fined/jailed

It’s bad enough that Michigan is run entirely by Republicans at the moment. But now we learn that our GOP-led Supreme Court has completely lost its mind. Yesterday, they ruled that homelessness is no excuse for sex offenders not registering their home with the local officials.

A Michigan Supreme Court says homeless sex offenders must report their home address to the state even though they don’t actually have homes. Paroled sex offenders are legally required to provide their home address to the state sex offender registry. But what if they’re homeless?

Mark Halperin calls President Obama a “dick” on national television

Uh, Mark? WHO is the “dick”?

Joe Scarborough: Mark Halperin, What was the president’s strategy? We are coming up on a deadline and the president decided to please his base, push back against the Republicans.I guess the question is, we know a deal has to be done. Is this showmanship? A lot of times you go up there and both sides and they act tough so their base will be appeased, then they quietly work the deal behind the scenes.
Mark Halperin: Are we on the seven second delay?

Mika Brzezinski: Lordy.

Halperin: I wanted to characterize how the president behaved.

Facts???! Beck worshippers don’t need no stinkin’ facts!

There is a delivery guy where I work who spends a lot of his time driving around to deliver packages for us. He’s also our company’s taxi service and recently picked up an Aussie colleague of mine. On the trip back from the airport, Aussie asked him if he thought Obama was good for America. Aussie had no idea that he had just rung the Beck Bell since Taxi Guy is a Beck Worshipper to the nth degree.

After ranting for awhile about socialistwheresthebirthcertificateKenyanusuper, Taxi Guy then proceeded to explain to Aussie that the reason that gas prices have gone up in America is because “Obama wants gas to be expensive”.…

More Dem threats against conservatives? Or not?

I’m sorry, but I am having a very hard time believing that this is actually coming from liberals:

A free-market think-tank at the center of a controversy over Freedom of Information Act requests to labor-studies departments received a series of death threats and bomb threats Thursday night and early today.

Personnel at the Midland-based Mackinac Center for Public Policy reported the five calls to the FBI and the local police. Spokesman Michael Jahr told the Free Press they appeared to come from one or two women and made repeated references to “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC.

~SNIP~

Four of the messages appeared to be from the same person.
