Trevor Thomas finishing strong in MI-03 primary, National Organization for Women (NOW) to endorse today (UPDATED)

A campaign for us all

Facing a well-financed establishment Democrat, Trevor Thomas has mounted a spirited campaign in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional district. While Steve Pestka has been racking up endorsements from an array of long-time Democrats in our state, Thomas himself has earned a string of solid endorsements of his own, proving his progressive bona fides.

Today, the National Organization for Women (NOW) will announce their endorsement, as well.

His latest television ad and much more after the jump.

Fmr. US Rep. Patrick Murphy, author of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal bill, endorses Trevor Thomas in MI-03

A different kind of candidate

Former US Rep. Patrick Murphy from Pennsylvania today endorsed Trevor Thomas for Congress in Michigan’s Third Congressional District. Murphy was the first Iraq War veteran to be elected to Congress and was the author of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010.

Trevor Thomas is a passionate public servant who will stand up for middle class families and fight for the people he represents. A member of Congress needs to be able to work with people of different views. The repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell didn’t just happen – it required extensive legwork and a willingness to reach across party lines.…

Steve Pestka Facebook page sheds hundreds of “Likes” after allegations that he bought them

Run away! Run away!

My piece last week titled “Is Democrat Steve Pestka buying Facebook “Likes” for his MI-03 campaign page?” ended up making a pretty big splash. It got picked up by Mario Aguilar at Gizmodo and then John Aravosis at AMERICAblog.

Both pieces took Pestka to task for what seems to clearly be a purchase of Facebook likes in order to make it look like the candidate is wildly popular on the internet. Except in his case, Steve Pestka is oddly very popular with 13-17 year old kids from Israel and the Philippines.

Subsequent to the story, the Pestka Facebook page started shedding “likes”.…

Is Democrat Steve Pestka buying Facebook “Likes” for his MI-03 campaign page?

Those are some interesting demographics you have there, sir…

A few weeks ago, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer sent a letter to the two Democratic candidates running for the seat in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, Steve Pestka and Trevor Thomas. In the letter (pdf), he asked them to sign a pledge to run a “clean and fair” primary campaign. The pledge contains six items, most of which are pretty standard fare. But one of them is not. It has the candidates pledging to “avoid attacks on each other’s records and positions by any means, including the media, campaign literature, advertisements, phone calls, mailings, e-mail, and speaking engagements.”

This is a condition that clearly favors the 60-year old politician Steve Pestka.…

MONEY BOMB for Trevor Thomas: a true progressive taking on two millionaires in MI-03

A Campaign for us ALL

Trevor ThomasMichigan’s 3rd Congressional District is currently represented by Tea Party member Justin Amash. Polling shows that Amash is vulnerable and that this seat is actually competitive for Democrats. In February, I wrote about the Trevor Thomas filing paperwork to unseat Amash. Here is what I wrote about Thomas a week before he announced:

After spending some time speaking to Trevor Thomas, I came away impressed. He is smart, eloquent, fiery, and charismatic. He is a passionate advocate for the middle class and those without a political voice. At the same time he is pragmatic and a realist. I believe he will appeal to a broad section of Michigan voters. He is pro-Choice, a supporter of the rights of young people, vets and union members and he is decidedly NOT an establishment candidate, something that many voters will find compelling in the current political climate.

Today I’m joining a host of other bloggers in a blog swarm to help the “Campaign for us all” raise some funds. You can contribute to Thomas’s “Campaign for us all” HERE. It’s important to contribute TODAY because his campaign has a critical fundraising deadline in the next 24 hours.

Trevor Thomas gains endorsement of Gov. Jennifer Granholm in MI-03, campaign gains momentum

Now we’re talking!

Democratic candidate for Congress in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, Trevor Thomas, has scored a key endorsement this week from former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.

I’m excited to introduce to you my friend Trevor Thomas, who is running to be the democratic contender against Rep. Justin Amash in Michigan’s 3rd District.

The son of two autoworkers, Trevor joined my re-election campaign in 2006, and he played a vital role in our victory. He was an even bigger part of our administration’s efforts in our second term. In fact, I remember traveling to Grand Rapids with Trevor as we visited with members of the media and highlighted issues like our No Worker Left Behind program to help Michigan workers transition to a global economy.

Justin Amash votes against extending middle class tax cuts, Trevor Thomas responds

Tax cuts for the rich, but not for YOU

I don’t know exactly how a tea party politician like Congressman Justin Amash does it exactly, but somehow this guy can justify supporting extending the budget-busting Bush tax cuts but not the middle class tax cuts.

But that’s exactly what he has done.

Trevor Thomas, who is seeking the Democratic nomination to run against Amash responded quickly and vigorously.

“With so many folks in Michigan hurting right now and receiving unemployment, Congressman Amash voted to raise taxes on the working class and cut unemployment for those thrown out of work and I believe that’s wrong,” said Thomas.

BREAKING: Trevor Thomas files paperwork in MI-03 to unseat tea party candidate Justin Amash

Let’s roll

As I wrote about earlier this month, Trevor Thomas was mulling a run for Congress in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District.

With polling completed and suggesting a very viable candidacy, Thomas filed paperwork this morning to make it official. Here’s the press release:

Announced via Twitter moments ago: @Trevor4Congress “I don’t believe @JustinAmash represents the ‘Jerry Ford’ values of west MI; I’m running for Congress to put party aside and fight for our jobs”

Justin Amash to get a solid Democratic challenger??? Maybe so if Trevor Thomas runs.

Trevor Thomas mulls throwing his hat into the ring in MI-03

There is no question that Congressman Justin Amash of Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District is vulnerable. As a self-identified tea partyer and with the popularity of the failed tea party agenda dwindling more every day, Amash’s own popularity is sinking as well.

Enter Trevor Thomas. Born and raised on the west side of the state, Thomas’ parents were both automotive factory workers. He has spent his life fighting for the middle class, working with struggling young people and and advocating on behalf of our troops. Now, it appears, he is mulling a run for the 3rd District seat.…
