Nonprofit group looks to help Benton Harbor citizens buy city radio station – for themselves

There IS goodness in the world

[NOTE: I have edited the title of this piece because PRC does not actually purchase radio stations or licenses themselves. They help other groups to do this.]

Laura Conaway at The Maddow Blog reports in a piece called “The Silencing of Benton Harbor, Michigan” that a private non-profit called Public Radio Capital is looking to help keep Benton Harbor’s city radio station in the hands of the people of Benton Harbor.

As of Saturday afternoon, the auction of the public’s station had drawn three bids, with — I think — two from actor and human rights activist Ben Patrick Johnson.…

Rick Santorum positively SURGING in Michigan – UPDATED

Welly, well. Looks like Michigan-born Mitt Romney is up to his keester in Santorum. Via Steve Benen at the Maddow Blog:

Public Policy Polling just released these resultsfrom the state of Michigan.

Rick Santorum’s taken a large lead in Michigan’s upcoming Republican primary. He’s at 39% to 24% for Mitt Romney, 12% for Ron Paul, and 11% for Newt Gingrich.Santorum’s rise is attributable to two major factors: his own personal popularity (a stellar 67/23 favorability) and GOP voters increasingly souring on Gingrich. Santorum’s becoming something closer and closer to a consensus conservative candidate as Gingrich bleeds support.

The Toil Index – Keeping the 99% busy…at work

Ezra Klein today runs a year-in-charts post that’s purely the excellent. It includes the Toil Index, by the excellent economist Robert Frank. Basically, it shows why it’s so hard for working people to live decently these days. Working families are running faster and faster just to afford the same things their parents enjoyed, namely decent homes and decent schools for the kids.

No wonder recruiting new activists is such a challenge. We’re all too goddam busy working to protest and get active. It’s the folks who are unemployed who are having to pull the rope the hardest.…
