Obama administration & Dems play Good Cop, Bad Cop with Norquist-worshipping Republicans

Pay no attention to the lobbyist behind the curtain

As LOLGOP pointed out this morning, there are Republicans who handily won re-election in their gerrymandered districts who do not fear the fiscal cliff. They can serve their two-percenter masters without fear that plunging our country into another recession will hurt their political careers in any way. But President Obama has a couple of things going for him. The first is that most Americans WILL blame the Republicans for “going there” if we do, indeed, go off the mythical cliff. Then there’s the fact that he won the election largely because he promised the super-wealthy would no longer be allowed to avoid paying their fair share in taxes.

Democrats are beginning to show some real spine in this debate. Politico reports today that many of them are ready to use their success on November 6th to restore some sanity to our budget.

Republicans still don’t get it: It’s not US. It’s YOU!

A clown car with a new paint job and faster internet is still a clown car

I’m hoping that LOLGOP will forgive me for stealing his User Picture but it just seems so apropos to this piece. I say that because, considering how much money political consultants make giving bad advice to Republican candidates and their leadership, the GOP elephant pleasuring itself sums up their party to a tee right now.

My take on the current state of the Grand Old Party after the jump.

1-term Michigan House Representative Mark Ouimet exits stage left without class or grace

“Nice guy”, my ass

When we moved to Dexter about seven years ago, our State House Representative was the amazing House Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes. She was term limited out of office and, in the crashing tea party wave of 2010, this historically Democratic seat was lost to “Nice Guy” Republican Mark Ouimet. As I have reported in the past, this “nice guy” actually participated in some pretty lowbrow campaigning with Michigan Republican Party attacking his opponents with poo-smeared brushes. Ouimet attempted to stay above it all but his protestations were feeble at best.

This year, however, he did not prevail.…

Ignored and with a campaign in complete shambles at home, Hoekstra takes it on the road – to Israel

Down in the polls by 16 points against Senator Debbie Stabenow and rapidly running out of both time and money, Pete Hoekstra took his failed campaign overseas last weekend. To Israel.

I don’t get it either.

Trailing 9% in polls, Hoekstra launches yet another lame attack against Stabenow

Aw, geez. That’s it? That’s all you have?

Debbie Stabenow has been a busy Senator lately. In addition to introducing and fighting for a Farm Bill that would help farmers devastated by the 2012 drought, in the past week she was at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, at the Michigan Democratic Party’s state convention this past weekend, at a fundraiser headlined by singer/songwriter James Taylor in Farmington Hills, MI, and appeared this morning on Tony Trupiano’s First Shift radio show.

Meanwhile, her opponent Pete Hoekstra, trailing by 9% in the latest PPP poll, has been busy launching another of his pathetically lame efforts to smear her. This time, it’s a website called WorstSenator.com.

I’m not kidding.

EPIC FAIL: Troy Tea Party Mayor Janice Daniels tries (& fails) to challenge recall petitions on font size

You’re kidding me, right?

Troy Tea Party mayor Janice Daniels (R-Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs) is facing a recall challenge. What has flown under the radar is that, on June 18th, she challenged the petition signatures gathered for her recall based on — wait for it — FONT SIZE!

Her challenge was both comical and, thankfully, an epic failure.

Mitt Romney hates teachers

We’re failing our children!

Last summer I posted a rant against the GOP’s demonization of teachers that gained a bit of traction. It went like this:

In any rational society, teachers are not considered “costs”. They are considered assets. Something to be valued. Something to be rewarded. The Republicans have done an amazingly effective job of turning the public’s perception from seeing teachers as a valuable asset to seeing them as parasitic leeches on the jugular vein of society. Rather than valuing them for the important role they play in our society — that of educating our children — they are now coming to be viewed as a “cost”, something to be cut when times get hard.…

Hey! Guess who still gets mega tax breaks under the GOP budget plan? BIG OIL!

It’s good to be the king

Not only is Paul Ryan’s “Path to Poverty” budget going to give rich people tax breaks and cut benefits to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security while maintaining current levels of military spending, it does something else, too. The GOP budget preserves massive subsidies to Big Oil companies while cutting investments in renewable energy.

[I]t appears that House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) proposed FY 2013 budget resolution would retain a decade’s worth of oil tax breaks worth $40 billion. And his budget would cut billions of dollars from investments to develop alternative fuels and clean energy technologies that would serve as substitutes for oil and help protect middle-class families from volatile energy prices as well as create jobs.…

GOP primary candidates: “Obama wants high gas prices because…um…”

Dude, that doesn’t even make any sense

Mitt Romney claimed this week that the Obama administration wants gas prices to be high:

[Romney] called for President Barack Obama to fire what he called the “gas hike trio” of Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson.

These three, this trio of his energy team, have been working like crazy to drive up the price of gasoline. And that’s just what they’ve done,” he said. “Given the fact he’s changed his policy, given the fact he now wants lower gasoline prices, I think its time for him to fire his gas hike trio.

Republicans jump the shark in their “War on Women” crusade – Release “Obama’s War on Women” video

Hoo boy…

Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings.”

That definition of projection succinctly defines what is happening with the Republican Party at the moment. They have spent the past three years since President Obama took office doing everything they can to roll back the clock in terms of any gains made by women in this country. From enacting harsh abortion restrictions to reducing their access to health care and so much more, Republicans have been on a non-stop crusade to take away some of the basic rights that women have secured for themselves over the past few decades.…
