Sarah Palin more popular than ANY GOP primary candidate

This oughta be inneresting…

Newt Gingrich said this week that a brokered GOP convention this year is a real possibility and that “a series of brand new players” could emerge. Rick Santorum thinks so, too.

Who might be a lead contender for the nomination if that happens? According to a PPP poll out this week, it’s Sarah Palin.

The talk of a brokered convention never seems to die down and one interesting finding on this poll was that Sarah Palin is far more popular than any of the actual Republican candidates in the race. Her net favorability is +48, with 68% of voters rating her favorably to only 20% with a negative opinion.

Think Rick Santorum won the day yesterday? He didn’t. (Updated)

Rick, you’ve been Romney’d

All the headlines this morning are blaring “RICK SANTORUM WON THE DAY AND YES I’M SHOUTING!!!

[Image credit: Daily Kos via Newseum]

But they are wrong. As it turns out, even in Mississippi where Santorum got the most votes, Mitt Romney walked away with more delegates that poor Rick. In fact, yesterday Romney ended up with 43 delegates and Rick Santorum got only 36. (Newt Gingrich got 24 and Ron Paul got 1.)

That’s what happens when you have rich friends who are Superdelegates and you and your SuperPACs outspend your rivals by leaps and bounds:

And yet Mitt still can bring it home, can he?…

How to be the Perfect Republican Wife (by Callista Gingrich) – UPDATED w/VIDEO

Yes, honey. Whatever you say.

Callista Gingrich tells us all how to be The Perfect Republican Wife:

When asked by a reporter what he was giving up for Lent, the hefty Newt admitted sheepishly that he was giving up sweets. Perfunctorily, the reporter asked the same of Callista. Her response had just a tinge of bitterness to it: “My opinion”.

Yikes. Anyone want to guess what precipitated that response?

I’m assuming she also has to pay for her own birth control, too. Couldn’t have people paying for her to have sex or anything.

Here’s the video:

Notice that Newt says, “That doesn’t count.” Must be because he doesn’t value her opinion.…

Newt Gingrich: Sarah Palin is qualified to be Vice President or Secretary of Energy

While the rest of the world laughs at the United States for even entertaining the idea that a person like Newt Gingrich is qualified to be president, he raises the level of his stupidity and pandering insipidity to eleven:

Caller: If you’re fortunate enough to be nominated, would you consider having Sarah Palin as your running mate?

Gingrich: She is certainly one of the people you would look at. I am a great admirer of hers and she was a remarkable reform governor of Alaska, she’s somebody who I think brings a great deal to the possibility of helping in government and that would be one of the possibilities.

Calista Gingrich vs. Michelle Obama? Game over.

Just so we are all clear on this, if Newt Gingrich were to become president, this woman, Calista Gingrich, would be the First Lady of the United States of America.

You know, instead of Michelle Obama.

Sorry to be superficial but I think you can tell a lot by looking at a person’s eyes and by the person they choose to spend their lives with.

Newt Gingrich to the LGBTQ community: Vote for Obama

Yeah, well, at least Newt is honest about his position on LGBTQ rights:

Republican Presidential contender Newt Gingrich had one message for a gay Iowa man: Don’t bother with me, vote Obama.

Or so says a professor who met Gingrich at the Smokey Row coffee house in Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register.

“I asked him if he’s elected, how does he plan to engage gay Americans. How are we to support him? And he told me to support Obama,” Scott Arnold, an associate professor of writing at William Penn University told the paper.

“When you ask somebody a question and you expect them to support all Americans and have everyone’s general interest,” Arnold continued.

Newt Gingrich calls CBO “a reactionary socialist institution which does not believe in economic growth/innovation”

Newt is such a charmer, isn’t he? I love that, when he appears in the GOP primary debates, he spends 3½ of his alotted 4 minutes deriding the question and the questioner and castigating the media as a whole. There’s no better way to garner positive press than treat the members of the press as pariahs and sociopaths, is there?

Well, there’s another group Newt ingratiated himself with this week: the nonpartisan group that scores our nation’s bill as to their impact on the nation’s budget & economy – The Congressional Budget Office (CBO). During a speech in New Hampshire Monday, he said “The Congressional Budget Office is a reactionary socialist institution which does not believe in economic growth, does not believe in innovation and does not believe in data that it has not internally generated.” It is not known if Mr.…

Herman and Newt: When weasels run

The crop of elephants running for the GOP’s presidential nomination are just chock full o’ laughs, aren’t they?

First we have Newt “I was for Paul Ryan’s plan to kill Medicare before I was against it” Gingrich last week on CBS’s Face the Nation.

BOB SCHIEFFER (overlapping): You heard at the top of this broadcast, we kind of laid it out there. You began your campaign last week on Meet The Press with what I have to say was just withering criticism of the plan passed by the Republican House to replace Medicare with government subsidized private insurance and– and you heard them.…

This. Is. Awesome.

This kinda restores a bit of my faith. Literally.

More than 40 prominent Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders and religion scholars issued a statement today condemning the “xenophobia and religious bigotry” fueling the increasingly strident opposition to a proposed Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero. These leaders from New York City and across the country are specifically challenging the divisive rhetoric of Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin, who have strongly opposed a center that will promote interfaith relations, combat extremism, and offer community programs for Americans of all religious backgrounds.

“It’s simply wrong for Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin to malign all Muslims by comparing this cultural center and mosque with a radical ideology that led to the horrific attacks of 9-11,” said Sister Simone Campbell, Executive Director of NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby.
