How to Use Twitter to Take Down a Monster

It’s almost as if you can’t make millions of dollars spouting tired sexist hate on commercial radio anymore.

Here’s the difference between Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh in case you’ve watched this video and are still wondering.

Forget that Maher is funny. Forget that he’s not on commercial television. Forget that he’s partisan out of necessity, not by design. (He accurately says, “Over the last 30 odd years, Democrats have moved to the right and the right has moved into the mental hospital.”) Forget that beyond a few dumb words, what Maher fights for are policies that generally ignoble women.

Here’s what it comes down to: Bill Maher has used cruel and sexist words to describe powerful Republican women.…

Birth Control Extremism is a Gift to Women

If women needing birth control to treat endometriosis makes you think about sex, there are medications for that.

There are still at it. They’re still implying Sandra Fluke is a slut. They’re still betraying they have no idea how birth control works. They still think getting a prescription to treat endometriosis is some luxury you’re being “given” at their expense.

As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently said, “Why extremists always focus on women remains a mystery to me. But they all seem to. It doesn‘t matter what country they’re in or what religion they claim. They all want to control women.”

She seems to be wondering two things:

1.

How to Use Twitter

Please RT!

- @RobDelaney

Apparently I’ve been waiting my whole life for Twitter.

Allen Ginsberg had to roam to streets to see the best minds of his generation destroyed by madness. I do it through a retina display. And politics has been waiting for Twitter, too.

Last year, Politico’s Ben Smith recognized last year that Twitter was draining the life from his blog. “What I’m doing right now is just incredibly old school,” he said. “I might as well have ink all over my fingers and be setting type.”

Since then Smith has joined BuzzFeed, which is attempting to harness the addictive and instantly viral nature of Twitter to cover the 2012 in a way that makes news and breaks news.…

Can We Call Mitt Romney a Liar?

When Mitt lies, Atlas shrugs

You know the GOP’s favorite Karl Rove tactic: Take an opponent’s strength and make it his weakness.

This is how Vietnam evader George W. Bush beat war hero John Kerry. This is why Sarah Palin, who was vetted as well as a pair of shoes purchased online, says President Obama wasn’t properly vetted. This blurs reality and leaves the press reporting the distortion at a higher volume than the truth.

Now to the strange case of Mitt Romney. His greatest weakness is his inconsistency, his willingness to adapt to whatever Dick Cheney, Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson believe at any given moment.…

Livetweeting HBO’s Game Change

How’s that “people take notes’ thing working out for you?

by @pourmecoffee

In the book “Game Change” by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, Sarah Palin doesn’t enter into the second half. The bulk of the story is the battle between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. It’s a story will be told throughout American history, a story made even more relevant by Clinton becoming Obama’s Secretary of State and the image of them sitting together in the War Room during the bin Laden raid. Serious shit.

But in the “Game Change” movie premiering tonight on HBO, Palin is the star.…

Why Barack Obama’s Greatness Goes Unnoticed

BREAKING: Black man can’t get a little credit

Here’s Barack Obama’s problem: He makes it look too easy.

His is a presidency that is flooded with accomplishments and astoundingly lacking in gaffes and scandals. He has returned this economy to just about where it was before the Great Recession hit, reversing a tide of attrition that lasted nearly a decade. He ended systematic discrimination of gays and lesbians by our military and passed the first system of near universal health care in American history.

This all follows his ascent to become the first African-American president defeating the most entrenched and qualified opponent in generations.…

Mitt Romney’s Not-So Super Tuesday

Good Luck Tonight. Really.

As Republicans in ten states take their turn at reluctantly accepting the creator of Obamacare as the GOP standard-bearer against President Obama, the actual President took the stage in the White House briefing room.

He announced new help for veterans and millions of homeowners then took some questions from the press corp.

Deftly, he explained to Fox News why their talking point about the President wanting gas prices to rise makes no sense. He explained why he thinks there is a window for peace in Iran. And he explained how the Sandra Fluke/Rush Limbaugh incident made him think about how he wants his daughters to feel safe to speak out.…

Predictions: Super Tuesday

Time to ship the Santorum Surge to the Smithsonian’s collection of Unfortunate Metaphors

With Eric Cantor, Tom Coburn and John Ashcroft’s endorsements, Barbara Bush making robocalls and the Drudge Report ignoring the biggest story of the campaign, the GOP establishment is determined to make Super Tuesday Mitt Romney’s big night. And it will probably work.

I think the story of the night will be that Rick Santorum would have won Ohio if he’d been on the ballot all over the state. He’s not. Instead, Mitt will take most of the delegates and Gingrich will do second best.…
