President Obama comes out of the gate powerfully against childish Republicans McCain & Graham

Game ON!

I walked out of my hotel room this morning and this greeted me:

It was a beautiful sight: President Obama setting a firm and adult-like tone against childish Republicans John “Who?” McCain and Lindsey “What about ME?” Graham who have suggested that they would filibuster an appointment of UN ambassador Susan Rice to be Secretary of State.

President Obama had this to say yesterday at his first press conference since the election:

Susan Rice, she has done exemplary work. She has represented the United States and our interests in the United Nations with skill and professionalism and toughness and grace.…

Rep. Peters invites Sen. McCain to Michigan to rub his nose in the auto industry recovery

Remember way back in 2008 when presidential candidate John McCain was dead set against the loans being given to our domestic vehicle manufacturers to prevent the entire industry from collapsing? It has turned out to be a big win for President Obama and his administration since then, but John McCain didn’t think it was a good idea at all:

I regret the president’s decision to give away over $17 billion to the domestic automakers. Just last week, the Senate rejected a bailout plan because it failed to provide assurances that the domestic manufacturers would fundamentally change the way they do business to ensure their long-term viability.…

Old man McCain weighs in on made-in-America iPads and iPhones

Via Talking Points Memo:

This Week host Christiane Amanpour described ABC’s efforts to empty a house of all products manufactured outside the U.S., after which McCain touted the Apple products’ American-made roots.

“I would also point out that if you emptied that house there … if you left a computer there, or an iPad, or an iPhone, those are built in the United States of America,” McCain said.

Actually, iPhones and iPads, as is printed on the back of the products, are designed in California, but built in China.

His spokesman later said, “Senator McCain is aware they were designed but not assembled in the U.S.”

Uh, yeah.…

Ding dong, the policy is dead!

Fer cryin’ out loud, was that so hard?

Rachel Maddow tweeted it second best:

Who tweeted it best? Lt. Dan Choi of course:

What’s he talking about? At Netroots Nation last year in Las Vegas, I was privileged to watch history being made when Lt. Choi gave Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid his Westpoint ring along with his discharge papers, saying the ring no longer meant the same thing to him as it did when he received it. Senator Reid said there was no way he would keep it because he didn’t earn it but, rather, that he would hold onto it and keep it safe until DADT was repealed.…

AZ-Sen: This is (not) good news for John McCain

Last month, our good friend poblano Nate Silver gave Rodney Glassman only a 1.5% chance of beating Grandpa Senator McCain. But that was before the latest Rasmussen poll came out.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds McCain earning 51% of the vote to Democrat Rodney Glassman’s 37%, his best showing to date. Seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate, while six percent (6%) are undecided.

That 14% gap along with Nate’s gloomy prediction may seem daunting. But, before you get too far down that path, follow me over the jump for some reasons for hopefulness.…
