Jennifer Granholm on Paul Ryan the liar

Plain talk about a brazen liar

Jennifer Granholm has been positively on fire lately.

I am SO loving this takedown of Paul Ryan and his RNC speech:

“We will not duck the tough issues, we will lead,” Ryan promised last night. He mentioned leading and leadership eight times in his speech. But he’d better bone up on what leadership is all about. More than anything, “leadership” is about honesty.

The No. 1 quality people look for in leaders, James Kouzes and Barry Posner state in their iconic book, “The Leadership Challenge,” in which they cite more than 40 years of extensive surveys across six continents, is honesty. People want to trust that their leaders will do what they say they will do. Of course we want to believe we will not be duped. Of course we want to be led honestly.

I couldn’t help thinking lastnight, we have been sold a bill of goods by a slick-haired, earnest-looking, fast-talking salesman. Harold Hill, move over. Apologies to Meredith Wilson of “The Music Man” fame, but if these guys win — we surely got trouble, my friends. Trouble with a capital “T” and that rhymes with “P” and that stands for “Paul.”

Ssss-NAP!

Jennifer Granholm’s response to Mitt Romney’s birther remark is a doozy

Go, Jen!

Brilliant.

“Yes Mitt, we all know you were born in Michigan. What we don’t understand is why you knifed us in the back when Michigan was on its knees.”

Larger version suitable for sharing and pinning after the jump.

The Romney Etch-a-Sketching continues, now he’s revising his position on saving the auto industry

Shake, shake, shake…

In his ongoing effort to obliterate his past and recreate a new vision of himself, Mitt Romney has again revised history. This time, it’s HIS story, the one where he used to say “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”.

In an interview published today in the Detroit News, Romney now says the federal government should have helped the domestic automakers after all. Except, in this new version, it should have been after they had gone through bankruptcy.

He’s also suggesting that the federal government should cash in remaining GM stock immediately, incurring a loss to the American taxpayers of nearly $50 billion, and that by not doing so, President Obama is playing politics.…

Trevor Thomas gains endorsement of Gov. Jennifer Granholm in MI-03, campaign gains momentum

Now we’re talking!

Democratic candidate for Congress in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, Trevor Thomas, has scored a key endorsement this week from former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.

I’m excited to introduce to you my friend Trevor Thomas, who is running to be the democratic contender against Rep. Justin Amash in Michigan’s 3rd District.

The son of two autoworkers, Trevor joined my re-election campaign in 2006, and he played a vital role in our victory. He was an even bigger part of our administration’s efforts in our second term. In fact, I remember traveling to Grand Rapids with Trevor as we visited with members of the media and highlighted issues like our No Worker Left Behind program to help Michigan workers transition to a global economy.

Jennifer Granholm is FIRED UP! about Michigan’s recovery, credits “active government” & President Obama

From former Governor Jennifer Granholm’s new show The War Room on Current TV. This is good stuff. Very good stuff.

This is what’s got me fired up: Today, on the front page of the New York Times, there was a story about Michigan’s rebound. Believe it or not, the state of Michigan now has a $457 million surplus. Tax revenues are flowing in, the unemployment rate is dropping – it’s fallen 5 points since 2009. Hallelujah!

During the past decade, Michigan had the toughest economy in the nation due to the implosion in our manufacturing and our automotive sectors.

Rick Snyder takes credit for Jennifer Granholm’s investments and their economic payoff, says he isn’t

During her time as governor, Jennifer Granholm made significant investments in diversifying and expanding Michigan’s economy. These things take time to have their impact but, according to a new study, they are. Michigan is second in the nation in recovering from the recession.

Michigan’s economy is recovering from the recession at the second-fastest pace in the U.S., lifted by reviving carmakers and local manufacturers, according to a new index of state growth.

The home of Motown was topped only by North Dakota, where an oil boom is raising incomes at the nation’s quickest rate. California, Massachusetts and Illinois round out the top five in the new Bloomberg Economic Evaluation of States Index.

Exclusive interview with former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm

This week, former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and her husband Dan Mulhern made their first stop in our state on their national book tour for their new release A Governor’s Story — The Fight for Jobs and America’s Economic Future. I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Governor Granholm by phone from her home in Berkeley, California and my interview, along with some of my wife’s photos from their Ann Arbor talk/book signing are now up at A2Politico.

Here is a brief excerpt:

A2Politico: A recurring theme in your book A Governor’s Story is that most people in Michigan didn’t realize how bad things were, how much your administration had done to cut taxes and stave off economic collapse, and how much you accomplished to lower the footprint of state government.…

New book by Jennifer Granholm & Dan Mulhern — A review of “A Governor’s Story”

I have a new piece up at A2Politico, a review of former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm’s new book A Governor’s Story, co-authored with her husband and partner, Dan Mulhern. The book, released today, is an important contribution to the political discussions taking place in America today.

Here are a few excerpts from my review.

A Governor’s Story is a first-person account told in Granholm’s voice. However, as is made clear from the start, it is a collaborative effort between her and Mulhern. The book tells four different stories. First, it is a history lesson about the impact on Michigan of the Great Recession of this decade, a state with seven times more manufacturing jobs per capita than any other state.…

If Mitt Romney wins the GOP nomination, he should probably just skip Michigan

I’m reading former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm’s new book A Governor’s Story in preparation for a review I’ll be writing for its release in a couple of days. I came across a paragraph which reminded me why Mitt Romney should probably just skip right over Michigan if he were to win the nomination. He should probably skip over Michigan trying to win the nomination, in fact. Granholm is telling the story about the CEO’s of the Detroit Three auto companies going to Washington, D.C. to appear before Congress for a second time, this time with their plans in-hand for turning their companies around.…

Buyers’ remorse regarding Michigan Governor Rick Snyder

Ouch. That’s gonna leave a mark.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has quickly fallen out of favor with the citizens who elected him, reaching levels of unpopularity lower than first term Republican governors in neighboring states and almost as low as the end-of-term numbers reached by his Democratic predecessor [Jennifer Granholm], according to a new poll.

The poll by Public Policy Polling found 50% of Michiganders disapprove of Snyder’s job performance, compared to 33% who approve, and would prefer to have elected Snyder’s opponent last fall, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, by a 47%-45% margin.

I’m just sayin’…
