Stupidity Alert: Nolan Finley is outraged that President Obama invites musicians to the White House

Faux poutrage is SO unbecoming…

Detroit News editorial page editor Nolan Finley is outraged that President Obama has the audacity to invite musicians to the White House. Though he was silent when previous presidents did this, it was enough to prompt a stupiditorial column in the paper this week.

More on this utter stupidity after the jump.

Detroit teachers ratify new contract, join 40 other schools and 5 universities facing punishment from Michigan GOP

Republicans punishing schools for 100% legal union contracts

This week, Detroit Public School teachers ratified a new union contract that staves off the impact of a new Right to Work law that goes into effect tomorrow. While the contract doesn’t give much to the teachers, it at least provides them with continued collective bargaining rights into the future.

With this action, the DPS now joins at least 40 other schools and five universities that face punitive action from Michigan Republicans who seek to deny them and some cities critical funding in a childish act of retribution.

Details and commentary after the jump.

The rank hypocrisy of Michigan Republican Senator Joe Hune

Good for the goose but not for the gander

Last year, Michigan Republican Senator Joe Hune sponsored a bill, which was signed into law during the inflamed duck session, that prevents any school board member from voting on school district contracts if they or any family member are an employee covered by that contract. While this may seem reasonable to avoid conflicts of interest, it’s causing controversy in some school districts where school board members may have relatives who are teachers or district employees.

However, the bill represents an enormous level of hypocrisy from Hune. He sits on a Senate Health Policy Committee and is the chair of the Insurance Committee, making crucial decisions on legislation that affects these industries, industries that make financial contributions to Hune’s campaign.

The cruel and pathetic hypocrisy of Republicans on disaster relief

Oh, the humanity (unless it’s not in my district)

Yesterday, Representative Peter King from New York took to the House floor to lambast Speaker John Boehner and others who are holding up disaster relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy. “I can’t imagine that type of indifference, that type of disregard, that cavalier attitude being shown to any other part of the country,” he said.

The 20-year veteran of the U.S. House of Representatives must have an astonishingly short memory. Who can forget, for example, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor holding up relief funds for Joplin, Missouri when their town was scrubbed off the map by a potent tornado in 2011?…

Romney says he’ll balance the budget in “EIGHT TO TEN years”, slams Obama for not doing it in FOUR

WTF?

Here’s something you may have missed during last night’s debate. Although the debate was supposed to be about foreign policy, it often veered back to domestic policy and the economy. During one of those veers, Mitt Romney said this:

“Come on our website. You look at how we get to a balanced budget within eight to 10 years. We do it by getting — by reducing spending in a whole series of programs.”

See why this is an unbelievably hypocritical statement after the jump.

Pete Hoekstra hypcritically wants to eliminate direct election of Senators while running for Senate

Hoo boy…

You have to hand it to Pete Houkstra — the man has gall. He’s running for Senate against Senator Debbie Stabenow and yet he wants to repeal the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that allows for the direct election of Senators.

I wish I were kidding.

Jase Bolger: “Nothing to see here, move along, we have unions to crush, women to deprive of reproductive rights”

I’m sorry we paused in our union-crushing, women’s rights ending crusade…

Late in the afternoon on Friday when most people were thinking more about their summer weekend ahead and not about state politics, Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger gave the apology version of the Friday afternoon “news dump”. In a piece published in the Detroit Free Press and put online at 2:56 p.m., he “apologized”.

Michigan GOP House Speaker Jase Bolger & new Republican Roy Schmidt found to have committed gross election fraud

Corruption in the House of Bolger

A press release from Kent County Prosecuting Attorney William Forsyth has revealed a jaw-dropping level of corruption and fraud on the part of Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger and Democrat-turned-Republican Representative Roy Schmidt. You can read the back story on Schmidt’s last minute dick move switch from Democrat to Republican that effectively ruined any chance of Democrats having a viable candidate HERE and HERE.

Forsyth’s investigation reveals that Schmidt and Bolger conspired to hire the weightlifting buddy of Schmidt’s nephew, Matthew Mojak, to run as a Democrat but not actually campaign. This would have forced Democrats to run a REAL Democrat in the primary as a write-in candidate, virtually assuring they would lose and that Schmidt would essentially have no opponent in the November general election.

The level of corruption and fraud perpetrated by Representative Schmidt and House Speaker Bolger is beyond anything witnessed in this state in recent memory.

Rush Limbaugh says he called Sandra Fluke a slut & a prostitute because “he became like the left”

Oh, brother…

First, I want to say a bit about why this whole Rush Limbaugh thing has me so incensed. I have a daughter who is just about Sandra Fluke’s age. She’s in graduate school and a highly-intelligent young woman.

And she’s on the pill.

I know this because she told me about it. We have a good relationship and, though I gulped when the conversation about it started, I know she’s going to be sexually active and that’s not only fine by me, I hope she has fun. She should have fun. Sex is fun, especially when you’re young. It’s not shameful or something to be ashamed of.…
