Michigan Senate Majority Leader Richardville faces recall attempt – from a Republican

We’re just not that into you. And neither are they.

In a true testament to exactly how politically polarized things have gotten in Michigan, former Monroe County Republican Party chair Jeff Andring has filed paperwork to recall Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville.

Andring says it’s because Richardville isn’t conservative enough.

Recall effort for Senator Phil Pavlov underway

The effort to recall Senate Education Chair Phil Pavlov got underway on January 7th. The group working toward his recall now has a webpage, RecallPavlov.org, and is actively seeking petitioners, petition signatures and financial support.

Senator Pavlov voted to support the odious “anti”-bullying bill that was not anti-bullying. He has supported legislation that reduces tax credits used by many Michiganders as well as the bill that became Public Act 4 – the Emergency Manager law. But, most egregiously, as Senate Education Chair, he has shown himself to be anti-teacher. He has even proposed privatizing the teachers of Michigan, saying “I look at it as offering options.…

Michigan Republicans end their recall efforts against Democrats

Turns out the Republicans’ retaliatory efforts to recall Democrats in Michigan was just an effort to collect contact information. Yesterday, Michigan Republican Party ended its recall drives against Democrats.

Michigan Republicans have halted their efforts to recall state Democratic lawmakers, a spokesman said today.

Stu Sandler, a consultant to the Michigan GOP who was organizing more than a dozen recall campaigns against Democrats, said the decision was made after discussions with Gov. Rick Snyder and other party leaders.

“We met our strategic goals,” Sandler said. “We spent a minimal amount of money and gained thousands of contacts” and “I think the Democrats were clearly on the defensive.”

In other words, they were never serious about recalling Democrats.…

Paul Scott is officially FIRED by the citizens of Michigan

And so it is done.

An election board Friday certified results from a recall election that removes a Republican state lawmaker from office.

Rep. Paul Scott of Grand Blanc was removed from the Legislature by 233 votes out of more than 24,000 ballots cast in a Nov. 8 election. The Board of State Canvassers certified the results in a meeting at the state Capitol.

Republicans say they won’t challenge the outcome and instead will focus on the special election to replace Scott, scheduled for Feb. 28.

Good riddance, Mr. Scott.

By the way, Scott was removed by a slender 233 vote margin.…

The little GOP recall that could – recalling anti-teacher, anti-union Rep. Paul Scott

In what can only be called a nail-biter last night (see my liveblog HERE to see what I mean), the effort to recall anti-teacher, anti-union Republican Rep. Paul Scott from Grand Blanc was successful last night. After all of the votes were counted, Scott was recalled by a margin of only 197 votes – 50.4% to 49.6%. This is, however, quite a different result than the final poll before the election that had Scott winning by 8 percentage points.

Over the course of this campaign, the recall organizers displayed a nearly-Herculean level of determination. Recall language approval happened very late in the game.…

MLive poll: over 82% say “Recall Paul Scott!”

I’m traveling for work this week so it’s been light blogging. I thought you might enjoy this link, however:

Poll: Should Rep. Paul Scott be recalled?

Answer: with over 800 votes cast, an overwhelming number say “YES!”. 78+% in fact.

[NOTE: this is even higher than the 61% in support of the recall that came out of a MIRS poll of voters in his district back in August.]
