Michigan Congressman Dan Benishek’s hypocrisy on veterans issues lands him in GOP’s Vulnerable Patriots Program

Dan Benishek, the Congressman from Michigan’s 1st Congressional District made a pledge when he first ran for that seat that he would only serve three terms. When he recently reneged on that pledge, I sorta shrugged. Republican politicians lying about things isn’t particularly BREAKING NEWS!!! However, when Benishek revealed his supposed reason for breaking his pledge, I got angry. According to Benishek, it’s so that he can continue to “serve millions of veterans every day as a leader on veterans’ issues in the House”.

Here’s what he wrote in an op-ed for UpperMichigansSource.com

Recently I was asked if I intended to seek another term in Congress.…

Climate change denier and “scientist” GOP Congressman Dan Benishek: “I haven’t SEEN the science that proves it”

“I can’t SEEE-EEE you…”

In a recent interview with ABC10, Republican Dan Benishek was questioned about his views on global climate change. He responded, “The climate may be changing, but I don’t think man is contributing to it.”

Pushed further, he had this to say:

“I’m not sure there’s any evidence to prove that there’s man-made catastrophic global warming…there’s no significant scientific evidence,” Benishek said.

“I could throw some science at you,” [ABC 10 news director Greg] Peterson said.

“Well, I am a scientist,” Benishek said. “You know, I believe in peer-reviewed science. But, I don’t see any peer-reviewed science that proves there is man-made catastrophic climate change.”

In the same interview, Benishek blamed the climate change he claims doesn’t exist on China.…

VIDEO: MI-01 Congressman Dan Benishek refuses to say if he’ll pledge not to vote to shutdown the government while aide tries to grab camera

It’s tough being a member of Congress. Your constituents are always up in your grill, holding you accountable for your votes, and wanting answers. “Do you support this bill?” “Why did you vote this way?” “Why did you vote that way?” “Will you try to shut down the government of the United States of America to prove a political point about immigration?”

That last one was a question asked of Congressman Dan Benishek this past week by someone with a video camera as he left a blood drive in Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. They spent over a minute walking next to him, asking him if he would pledge not to vote to shutdown the government.…

DCCC targets Michigan Republicans for support of Paul Ryan’s “screw the poor, enrich the rich” budget

Republicans know who butters their bread and it ain’t YOU!

Paul Ryan introduced a new budget bill recently that is basically a rehash of his previous budgets. As LOLGOP put it, “In Ryan’s Randian hellscape, everything must be done to tame the debt in the next ten years, except anything that could hurt the GOP immediately with seniors, though huge cuts to Medicare will follow. And taxes must never be raised, nor may any tax break be eliminated. Also, we should spend more on defense. Thus incredible cruelty must be inflicted from the cuts he proposes to the programs the keep America’s working poor and elderly from abject poverty.”

He’s right.…

The schooling of a fool: John Dingell puts tea partier Dan Benishek in his place

It’s bad enough to be a Republican but do you have to be a jackass, too?

When Republicans blasted their way into the halls of Congress after the tea party wave of 2010, they found themselves among colleagues, some of whom had been there for years, even decades. John Dingell, for example, was entering his sixth decade as a member of Congress and is seen by even his political opponents as a man worthy of respect and, equally important, someone to learn from.

As Amy highlighted so well in her post last night, tea partier Kerry Bentivolio has no respect for John Dingell, allowing his staffer to mock the Dean of the House while others even from his own party showed him the deference he had earned.…

Florida Rep. Trey Radel, stepping down due to cocaine use, donated to Dan Benishek’s Congressional campaign in 2012.

You will know them by the friends they keep

Florida Congressman Trey Radel announced yesterday that he’s “taking a leave of absence” after being busted earlier in the week for buying cocaine from undercover police officers.

Radel is a supreme hypocrite. Earlier this year he voted for legislation that would require anyone receiving food stamps to be drug tested. No government handouts for him!

As it turns out, there’s a Michigan connection between Congressman and Hypocrite Trey Radel. In October of last year, he gave a campaign contribution of $2,000 to our very own 1st District Congressman Dan Benishek who won the seat a week later by the tiniest of margins.…

DCCC holding Republicans accountable for not passing new budget to prevent another #GOPshutdown

What’s the hold-up, Mr. Boehner?

In about 60 days, the current agreement to keep our federal government funded will run out. This sets the country up for another battle with tea party Republicans dead-set on repealing the Affordable Care Act. With the power of the Republican-led House of Representatives apparently in the hands of Senator Ted Cruz, there is, apparently, no appetite for Congressional Republicans to move on this and pass a budget that will keep the federal government open for business

Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is launching a paid Facebook campaign calling out 32 Republicans across the country for their dereliction of duty.…

As GOP popularity tanks nationally over #GOPshutdown, Americans United runs ads against vulnerable legislators

We Will Make Them Famous And You Will Know Their Names

Things are not looking good for the Republican Party these days. Poll after poll shows that they are bleeding support in literally historic fashion. Here’s the most recent Gallup poll:

[Image credit: Anne C. Savage, special to Eclectablog]

With the Republican-controlled House of Representatives engaged in a tense, government-shuttering budgetary standoff against a Democratic president and Senate, the Republican Party is now viewed favorably by 28% of Americans, down from 38% in September. This is the lowest favorable rating measured for either party since Gallup began asking this question in 1992.

VIDEO: GOP U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek locks constituents out of his office

What does it tell you when your Representative is afraid of talking to his constituents???

A group of senior citizens recently tried to visit the Gaylord office of their U.S. Representative, Dan Benishek, to talk to him about his vote to kill Medicare. When they got to the office, it was locked with the blinds drawn and instructions to press the buzzer and state the nature of their business. They were eventually allowed in, one at a time while the others were forced to stand in the hallway, and then only because there was a reporter present. Video and more after the jump.
