Hi, folks. Thanks for your patience as we make our way though fundraiser week. I listen to Michigan Public Radio every morning and realized that we’re running competing fundraising drives this week. Ironically, judging by the Alexa scores — a rating system for website traffic — Eclectablog actually gets more traffic than MichiganRadio.org.

Here’s the thing: you don’t have to donate a lot of money to help out. If a significant number of our regular readers were to kick in $5 or $10, it would go a long way toward paying our bills.

OFA: grassroots organizing powerhouse. Again.

The Obama campaign released numbers today about how effective their ground game in swing states has been in two specific areas: voter registration and early voting. How effective have they been?

In a word: VERY.

It took some doing but Mitt’s just the man for the job!

Mitt Romney has been accused of flip-flopping on pretty much every single major policy position and issue that has been discussed in the presidential election. Abortion. Taxing the rich. Budget policy. Health insurance reform. Raising taxes on the middle class. You name a major issue and Mitt Romney has taken both sides at some point in the past decade.

What’s lost in this discussion is the fact that, by doing so, Mitt Romney hasn’t just appeased everyone. He’s also pissed off everyone. For every issue that is important to any particular group, he hasn’t just sided WITH you; he’s sided AGAINST you.

Today is Day Three of our week-long fundraiser at Eclectablog. We’re asking those of you who get some value from what we do here to contribute just a small amount back to help us keep the lights on and buy us the occasional beer.

The Michigan branch of Working America is celebrating over 100,000 Michigan members! Tomorrow, October 11th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., they are gathering to share Michigan-made appetizers and beverages and are hoping you will join them. All proceeds from this event will go toward expanding and enhancing their field program. Admission is $50, $25 for members. Can’t afford that? Come anyway! Any level of support will be greatly appreciated.

Last March in Wellington, Florida, City Council candidate Al Paglia was declared the winner only to learn later that the voting machines used to tally the vote had reversed his votes with his opponent’s and he was subsequently informed he had actually NOT been elected.

Don’t boo, vote! Don’t cry, GOTV!

What a difference a week makes, eh? Suddenly, after an entire summer of leading Mitt Romney, President Obama is suddenly down in the polls. A recent Pew Poll shows him getting clobbered by Romney. Even the Gallup tracking poll has President Obama down by two points among likely voters.

All because of one “bad” debate performance.

Freaked out? You should be. Here’s the good news: there is something you can do about it.

Aye, aye, aye…

Former Clinton advisor-turned-tea party freak, Dick Morris has a new book out called Here Come the Black Helicopters: UN Global Governance and the Loss of Freedom. In it, he postulates, among other things, that if President Obama is reelected to a second term, he will allow the United Nations to tax Americans so that they can redistribute the money to less fortunate countries.

You think I’m kidding but I’m not. He put it out there in an “opinion” piece (i.e., book advertisement) at Fox News, reposted from his own website.
