Obama gives speech to Planned Parenthood that conservatives said he cancelled

“Planned Parenthood is not going anywhere”

President Obama delivered remarks to the national Planned Parenthood conference today. He had been scheduled to deliver them earlier in the week but, instead, delayed his speech to spend more time with the victims of the explosion in West, Texas. When it was announced that his original speech was cancelled, the anti-Choice group Susan B. Anthony List declared victory (as did others).

They were, of course, quite wrong.

Details and a full transcript of his speech after the jump.

2012: The Year of Michigan Women in Politics

Chapeau: doffed

2012 was a year full of politics in Michigan. As a political writer, particularly one writing from the progressive side of things, I never had a single day where there wasn’t something happening in Michigan worth writing about. We weren’t far into 2012 before I realized that women were standing up and speaking out in larger numbers and with a louder, stronger voice than any other group of people in our state. So much so that I have taken to calling 2012 the Year of Michigan Women in Politics.

By Popular Demand: GOP Rape Advisory Chart (Vol. IV)

Recently I said I was finally done with these things, but with yet ANOTHER idiotic, offensive statement by a Republican about rape victims the other day, I’ve been turned into Al Pacino in Godfather III*

I therefore present the Republican Rape Advisory Chart…Volume IV.

I’ve also included links to the complete 4-volume set; feel free to use/repost as appropriate, but please upload the image to your own server to keep the bandwidth hit low on mine. I also ask that you keep the “compiled by Brainwrap” text at the bottom.

*(“Just when I thought I was out…they pulled me back in.”)

The GOP Rape Advisory Chart: Volume III

Yes, that’s right. Just like Peter Jackson’s production of The Hobbit, I’ve found so much raw material to work with that I decided to break what was originally a single story into two, and now three sections.

As I reported yesterday, in addition to being front-paged here at Eclectablog and at dKos, the first chart went utterly viral, hitting everything from Alternet and Balloon Juice to the New Civil Rights Movement, Dan Savage and even (and it doesn’t get more surreal than this) Neil Gaiman by way of Wil Wheaton.

dKos even did an email alert blast thingie with it.…

Planned Parenthood Pink Bus Tour comes to Canton, Michigan TUESDAY

Hard to believe we STILL have to fight the War on Women

the Republican War on Women in full swing, including an anti-women Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan, Planned Parenthood is launching a Women are Watching battleground state bus tour to educate and mobilize voters in 11 states over 17 days.

The tour with their iconic “Big Pink Bus” lands in Canton, Michigan TOMORROW, Tuesday, August 21, 2012. It’s no surprise. Women are under attack more profoundly in our state than in most others. Republicans in our state legislature are on a course to roll back nearly every gain in women’s reproductive freedoms that we’ve made.

Details after the jump.

Michigan Republicans pass one of three regressive anti-abortion, anti-choice bills today, table other two

Hard to stop a freight train

The Michigan House Republicans voted to pass one of the three anti-choice, anti-women bills that make up the omnibus package described as the most regressive legislation of its kind in the country.

A deeply divided Michigan House on Wednesday approved new regulations for abortion providers after passionate floor debate on the issue.

House Republicans will not hold votes on two other abortion bills, including a controversial ban on most abortions after 20 weeks with a narrow exception for the mother’s life.

“We decided not to take that up right now so we can discuss the legislation further,” said Ari Adler, spokesman for House Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall.

We’re still watching and we still vote

As I wrote yesterday, Planned Parenthood of Michigan brought nearly 500 protestors to the state Capitol yesterday to protest a package of bills that will make Michigan the most anti-choice, forced-birth state in the country. Photos and video from the rally can be found HERE.

In the face of the noisy protest, a scheduled vote was postponed in the full House and is likely to be voted on tomorrow.

Planned Parenthood of Michigan protests anti-abortion legislation at Michigan Capitol TODAY! 1 p.m. (and MORE)

It’s time to get involved in the Michigan front in the GOP War on Women

Today at 1 p.m., Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan are holding a huge protest against the Republicans who are pushing to enact the most restrictive, anti-choice, anti-women legislation in the entire country. It takes place at 1 p.m. at the State Capitol building.

The Michigan House is set to vote today (Tuesday, June 12) at 1:30 p.m. on a package of bills (HB 5711 – 5713) that are an overreaching and unprecedented attack on women’s reproductive health care. After being silenced during a hearing on the bills before the House Committee on Healthy Policy last week, protesters plan to converge upon the capitol at 1 p.m.…

Terrorist strikes Planned Parenthood clinic in Wisconsin, detonates bomb

“Pro-Life” has different meanings for different people, apparently

A Planned Parenthood clinic in Grand Chute, Wisconsin was bombed last night. Fortunately, nobody was injured and the building sustained only minor damage from the resulting fire.

The bombing is under investigation by the FBI.

While presidential candidates like Mitt Romney say…
